What a drag and waste of a soft drink I I heard was good when you’re stoned. Tried many times with 2 types of baking soda and 2 bottles of peroxide, one old, one new (they both fizzled in my mouth and tasted like ‘peroxide’) all attempts equal fail. I’m going to get purple glow sticks, empty out the juice minus glass thing, add peroxide and post videos acknowledging the prank of glowing purple mountain dew. ‘david’ = fail.

The reaction will not work using the items in the video. On second thought, yes it will as the creator of the video obviously used the oxylate ester of a glow stick to create the effect. The H2O2 and ester will create a glowing effect, but the concentration of the peroxide will determine how bright it glows. With household concetrations, this is not very bright. Also, for those that talk about using phosphorus, that is one of the most unsafe things I can imagine. Even if you could somehow afford the pure phosphorus you would need, you would only get a small, short-lived glow from the oxidation and create a fair amount of hazardous phosphoric acid, but its your life. So, go ahead and chase your wild goose, but the three items mentioned in the video will not react but to fizz a little bit.

It is a hoax but you can get it glowing. You need to add phosphorus to it.
I saw how to make a tomato glow, from a trusted source.
They took a couple of self light matchsticks and scrapped the tips into a test tube, and then added bleaching powder and water to it. Then they dissolved it nicely and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then you had some sediment settled at the bottom and clear liquid on top. They put it in a syringe, it was a tiny amount and it was glowing lightly.
Then they injected it into a tomato and then after that injected…guess what!!!….hydrogen peroxide into the tomato. The tomato started glowing.
I think if you did the same to a around 1/4 bottle of dew it should work.
There is a reason why the expirment I mentioned above was done on a tomato, something to do with what was inside the tomato that also had a part in the glow.
So i think adding the bleaching powder to the dew makes the the liquid just like the insides of a tomato.
So all you need to do is add the phosphorus solution.
I think anyone with a decent knowledge of chemistry will know exactly whether it is pure phosphorus that is a result of mixing matchstick tips with bleach.
I think you can directly add pure phosphorus.

Okay…for those that have any questions…they DID NOT use baking soda but some kind of phosphorus compound. Baking soda doesn’t powder and has a grainy texture. I should know, I’ve been baking for almost 50 years! My husband and I also used to make archery sight pins that we dipped in paint with a glowing compound that was very powdery just like what the kid took out of the box.

and this whole bull shit abouts the “exact amount” is bull, if any of you have taken chemisty at all, you would know about excess and limiting reactants, example

reactant + reactant = products, and probably a little left over of one of the reactants

this can be showen if you take the baking soda, put a good amount in a bowl, and add a little bit of viniger, still reacts right? theres some baking soda left over right?, thats the excess reactant, it wasn’t all reacted because the limiting reactant can be seen was viniger, all of it was used up

what i’m trying to say is that just because you have a little extra doesn’t mean that it won’t work, if that were true you would need to measure to the amount of atoms, not ounces, miligrams, whatever, nothing in this world would ever react if that were true, so thats all bull shit, there should have been at least some glow if it was like that, but hey guess what, i went in a dark room that i have (dads a photographer) totaly sealed off from light, shake shake shake, shake shake shake shake you dew, shake your dew, wtf??? no glo, what a surprise…..

well, i tried, twice, no result, my guess is that it has something to do with that whole glow stick thingy, i dunno, i’ma gonna go look this stuff up, and that, i think that the only reason why mountain dew is involved is cause the whole green part of the liquid,i have no clue, but some other site mentioned replacing baking soda with bleach and matchstick heads??? anyone got any ideas on that?
