Lead In Lipstick – The Campaign For Safe Cosmetics announced 61% of all brands had detectable levels of lead in lipstick brands tested, with some showing dangerously high amounts of lead.

Name brands found to have high levels of lead in lipstick include L’Oreal, Cover Girl, Christian Dior, and Maybelline.
Any lead exposure is dangerous and the FDA already limits lead levels in candy or other foods to below 0.1 ppm.
Because lipstick is slowly ingested over time and lead is a toxic poison that never leaves the body, there is real concern that women and especially teenage girls are at high risk of damaging levels of lead exposure.
Brands with dangerously high lead in lipstick levels:
- L’Oreal - Colour Riche True Red - 0.65
- L’Oreal - Colour Riche Classic Wine - 0.58
- Cover Girl - Incredifull Lipcolor Maximum Red - 0.56
- L’Oreal - Colour Riche True Red - 0.50
- Cover Girl - Continuous Color Cherry Brandy - 0.28
- Dior - Addict Positive Red - 0.21
- Maybelline - Moisture Extreme Cocoa Plum - 0.19
- Maybelline - Moisture Extreme Midnight Red – 0.18
- Peacekeeper - Paint Me Compassionate - 0.12
- Cover Girl - Incredifull Lipcolor Maximum Red - 0.12
- Maybelline - Moisture Extreme Scarlet Simmer - 0.11
Lipstick Lead Health Risks
High levels of lead exposure are linked to miscarriages and other related health problems in women, as well as learning and developmental problems in children.
Hopefully the FDA will act quickly to get the lead out of lipstick because there is no good reason for it to be there at all. Sloppy manufacturing controls lead to lead in lipstick, but over a third of all brands tested showed no lead content at all, including some of the least expensive brands.

So the question is, are designer brand lipsticks slowly poisoning their wearers due to toxic levels of lead in lipstick? Certainly doesn’t seem worth the risk of exposure to wear those brands…
And that’s the latest news on the dangers of lead in lipstick.

Who knew?
How many women have been adversely affected by lead in their lipstick and never knew?
How many babies have been damaged by this totally unnecessary lead exposure?
And what the hell is the FDA waiting for?
Why hasn’t lead in lipstick been banned already?

Revlon Lipstick also contains very toxic ingrediants like; a Carcinogen Limonene which is not supposed to have contact with skin,it is an irritant. Also Acetate, which may cause liver and kidney damage with anemia.
How can they do this?

First, kids dying from lead in toys. Now, they find high levels of lead in lipsticks. What’s next – lead in food? Are women going to start dying now too from using lipstick too much?

I am a Registered Nurse and appauled that our Medical foundations allow the mutli toxic pollutants into our bodies having full knowledge of the damage being done. Are we not the most important entity on this planet ? Then why not embrace this concept and protect us. My take on the progression of our human society is with every revolution of this planet we gain increased stupidity. What a disapointment we are as a species. Wake up North America and put research to good use.

I have developed Fibromyalgia which is neuro disease process. After wearing mostly red colored lipsticks for 40yrs I am questioning the lead in lipstick and its daily link to this disease. This was not a developed disease prior to the babyboonmers era. Since we are the largest group to have consumed these lead infused products we should be utilize for research to determine the true damage done to our wonderful bodies. How irresponsible of the industry and medical profession. Accept accountability and restore the smart products for wellness.
