I wish I could see the reports Kim and Lorrie did the day of the fires. I've had no luck finding them.

Recently, Interactivate, Inc. announced the launch of “Share to Care.” Share to Care is a new social networking website at www.sdfirerebuild.com designed to facilitate communications and provide resources for recovery from the recent San Diego and Southern California wildfires of October 2007.

Social networks are playing an increasingly important role during and in the aftermath of disasters. This is our way of contributing to the community and the recovery effort by offering a non-commercial forum where people can share their stories and find support in the rebuilding effort.

Everyone is welcome to participate. Even if you weren’t a victim of the fires, you probably know someone who was or have a personal experience to relate; the site is open to the public and includes links to community and government resources. If you know of a valuable resource, we encourage you to post it.

I hope that you will find this site useful. You’re welcome to post anything about rebuilding workshops, clean-up information, lot swaps or similar services, or other offers that may benefit the San Diego community affected by the fires.

Returned to Via Alta Mirasol. 2 homes were burned on Mirasol from my visual observation. Everything else in the area seems fine but we have no power. Does anyone know when power will be restored?

They lifted the barricades in Westwood and my parents got back in with all the power. Sounds like everywhere else should be good to go soon if not now.

our parents live on Plaza Marlena (off Paseo Del Verrano) and the house is fine as far as we can tell. They tried to get there yesterday but traffic was messy so they said to heck with it.

If you go to www.cbs8.com and click on the homes destroyed link the street names are actually linked to a google map and you can zoom in/out and figure out if you have relatives or a house in the area and it gives you a better idea of what's gone/still standing. Hope this helps.

You're all in our prayers up here in the rainy NW and we're wishing we could bottle up this rain and send it your way. Stay strong!

I haven't been home in awhile. I'm up in Seattle and getting my info from talking to friends and family in SD. My parents have lived on Luz Place for 31 years and my sister was able to go in our house the other day for 5 mintues and said all looked well. I just heard something on KGTV about certain areas being able to go back to RB, but not to La Terraza. I didn't get the specifics on what areas you could go back to, but look into it.

Most recent list of RB closure: http://www.sandiego.gov/mayor/pdf/071024rbclosures.pdf

Vista del lago is still closed, even though 4 homes have been affected. I hope that the utilities and cable lines will be active when we are allowed to return, but I suspect that is not the case.

Does anyone have more/better info on Vista del Lago???

Brian - Have you gone home? We live in Montelena and haven't been able to return. We heard from friends this morning that they may be letting us return after the President leaves the area. Have you heard anything?

I just heard on KNSD that another house burned down this morning in Rancho Bernardo from smoldering embers. Firefighters were able to get some pictures off the walls, but were unable to save the house. Anyone have any info on where this house exactly is?

At that same website www.nbcsandiego.com, click on Fire Maps - 10/24 and scroll to Map 10. It gives a general but very good visual image of the street affected on a detailed map.

If you go to www.nbcsandiego.com, they have a slideshow of houses that burned down in Rancho Bernardo (most are in the Westwood area). I can recognize the portions of the following streets:
Luz Place
Cabela Road
Duenda Road
Aliento Court
Escoba Place
Corazon Place
What I believe is La Terraza
Parts of The Trails

There are a few streets that I don't immediately recognize. There are 24 pics from a hKNSD helo that flew overhead to show some of the damage. Check it out if you still don't know the exacts about your place or haven't seen it yet. The slideshow is called the Rancho Bernardo Damage Tour.

Can someone give a street map showing the affected areas? Something that gives a visual of the street names and addresses? I dont know where all these streets listed are, but with a street map I can understand better. My friend of 35 years lives in Rancho Bernardo and I cant reach her.

We live on Chieftain Ct. and our answering machine is now picking up. Previously, I also got the "your call cannot be completed at this time" message. So, electricity is back on. Has anyone made it into the Meridian area?

A significantly more complete list of homes lost in RB is posted at (edited by hitsusa admin because that same link has been posted 6 times already).

HitsUSA admin says: The link below is to the most complete list I have seen. It covers all of San Diego county including Rancho Bernardo.

Does anyone know about Maranatha Christian School on Camino del Norte/Camino Del Sur? Photos from the 22nd show the school standing with blackened ground nearby, but I'm worried that wind changed, etc and sent it back into the school. Any info would be great.

I live in Bernardo Pines on Caminito Pinero @ 17985 I have not seen Caminito Pinero or Caminito Reynaldo posted on the list of addresses. I have also called my home phone and my answer machine has been picking up so that is a good sign.

I just called La Terraza, they picked right up, and "know nothing" I basically did this to see if they would rely the infomation I had left yesterday.

Tenants, we can only depend on each other.

Matt...I heard that they weren't letting residents in at night due to the dangers of walking around the debris in the dark. Tell your brother to try again today. My sister got into my parents home yesterday with no problems. They were telling people that they would only escort those who needed medication, but when she got up there, they didn't ask her why she was going to the house...they just escorted her. Also, one writer earlier said that Westwood was in a "stable state", but that doesn't mean that the neighborhoods are completely safe. Firefighters are still stopping by the houses that burned down and dousing the ashes with flames every so often. The ashes are still smoldering, so the possibility of flare ups are still present. I wouldn't expect to be able to return home for a few days at a minimum, so you probably want to get some temporary housing arrangements taken care of soon. One last rumor from the fire department...one firefighter (don't know what department or position) mentioned that they don't expect to have the fire under control until at least Nov 1st. Let's pray that the weather helps and these men and women can provide us with more heroics quickly and safely.

Matinal Circle Update

I finally got through to my brother's answering machine at 11322 Matinal Circle (south of Matinal Road). So at least the kitchen counter is still standing. The phone had not even been ringing for the previous 48 hours. I had been getting an immediate recording of "your call cannot go through at this time." My brother drove to Westwood last night and the National Guard would not escort him to his home. I saw the fire chief being interviewed this morning on CNN. He said residents would not be able to reinhabit the neighborhood until water, utilities and debris from the street can be addressed. He also said that the National Guard would escort residents to their homes for five minutes. Maybe there was a personnel shortage last night and escorts had to be temporarily suspended. My brother said he did see smoke coming from several parts of the community as he drove past on I-15. Please pass along any news from the Matinal Circle neighborhood. Thx. Matt (mrc316@gmail.com)

RETURNED TO LA TERRAZA

I live in 10974, and it was untouched by the fire. The unit across the garage alley (don't know the number) was burned out. The top floor anyway. Everything is wet. I only had a couple of minutes and didn't want to waste the police's time.

I called the office and I guess the calls there are being rerouted somewhere. The girl who answered the phone knows nothing (then why answer the phone?). I relayed the info about my building, but I don't believe she took down the info.

Nevertheless, La Terraza residents, call with any info or unit numbers, they can be a big help with those who have no idea. Like my downstairs neighbor, a Marine on deployment.

Westwood Elementary is okay.

I want to put some of your minds at ease. While I wondered whether my grandma's house was OK, I was also worried before it possibly catching on fire later today/tomorrow even if it was still standing.

Let me put your minds at ease.

When I visited RB today at 3:30 PM, there were ZERO current fires in Rancho Bernardo. No smoke, no nothing. It was actually clear, sunny skies... amazing how different it was from 24 hours previously. It would be VERY easy for helicopters / satellites to photograph / check up on RB from the sky too.

Plus, there are TONS of police officers and National Guard troops (camoflauge & machine guns) along the entrances to bad neighborhoods. Also, police officers are driving around within the neighborhoods regularly. So even if something somehow did happen to catch fire (not sure HOW that might possibly happen given the "stable state" I saw today), I'm absolutely positive the police would immediately recognize the fire and get the fire department there asap.

I did happen to notice a bunch of fire trucks and police cars having their "base" at the Community Park; so they would be ready to spring into action if needed.

Also: little to no wind today in RB during the afternoon. GREAT signs!

Hope this helps.

Just want to confirm some of the information already posted & add new info.

If you go to the Holiday Inn on Rancho Bernardo Drive, the police will personally escort you (or drive you) to your house. You must have government photo ID to prove you live there. They will not ask if you are going to get medicine (although this might be the "official" line). They will wait for you while you go into your house for a few minutes to check things out.

I went to Cedilla Place (my grandma's house) in Oaks North. From the intersection of Rancho Bernardo Rd & Pomerado Rd (the "checkpoint" at which the National Guard will not let you go any further North), I drove North on Pomerado Drive & made a right on Paseo Del Verano; left on Cumana Terrace; right on Cedilla Place. The homes within Oaks North along my drive - and even the houses on the hill to the East (off Valle Verde Dr) - are completely UNTOUCHED. There are tree branches and trees that have been blown down, but NO FIRE DAMAGE. My grandma's house has a smoky smell, but other than that - it's as if nothing happened.

I too heard that my grandma's Government Representative would have a list of all burned houses on his website.

Where I DID see fire damage was along I-15 (the saddle ridge with the cross on it was burnt, for instance). 95% + of the homes I saw along I-15 south of Escondido were just fine. I only saw one home south of the Pomerado Rd. exit along I-15 that was burnt.

Rancho Bernardo Community Park (including dog park) on W Bernardo Dr was just fine - untouched. Couldn't believe it. The retirement center directly across the street from the Community Park was just fine too - thank god!

I believe the Sheriff's office for San Diego County has a list of mandatory evacuations - and LIFTED evacuations. I called them and they told me Poway's mandatory evac had been lifted. They did not know that at least part of RB's mandatory evac had been lifted, however. So their information may be slow.

The best thing to do is get on the ground and go see for yourself.

Hope this helps some of you. And God Bless.
