California Wildfires Update – Large areas of Southern California continue to burn tonight as wildfires rage in a dozen fires across San Diego County, Los Angeles County, Lake Arrowhead, Malibu, and other sites.

Here’s a California wildfires map showing the 7 biggest fires:
The San Diego area has been particularly hard hit with multiple major fires burning out of control. Areas hit hardest include Rancho Bernardo, Santiago Canyon (Irvine), Witch Creek fire, and the Harris fire.
250,000 people have been evacuated in San Diego area and there are a lot more homes in danger. Here’s a look at the latest San Diego evacuation map:
Red areas are fire containment zones, purple are evacuation areas, and pink areas are also expected to need evacuation in the next day or two.
California wildfires are also raging again in Malibu Canyon, already hard hit yesterday. Multiple areas have been evacuated around Malibu including the oceanfront Malibu Colony and the infamous Malibu Promises rehab center.
Tonight’s fire forecast – Highly flammable and very hard to control:
The wildfires thoughout Southern California will continue to burn through at least Wednesday, with many areas not now threatened becoming toast within 48 hours.
Tomorrow is expected to be even windier than today and that means new California wildfires erupting from windblown embers. Obey the mandatory evacuation orders and let the firefighter do their jobs
And that’s the latest news on the 2007 California wildfires.

More on the California wildfires:
Fire authorities admit they are struggling to control the fires and are grimly expecting the situation to worsen as powerful, hot desert winds gust across the region this week.
“These fires that are sweeping through Southern California are a perfect storm,” said Los Angeles County supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
“The fire department and law enforcement personnel have been stressed almost beyond the point of reason because there are so many fires going, mutual aid has been stressed to their limits,” he said.
“The winds are erratic and unpredictable. There is no telling where the California wildfires will move and when.”
Officials in San Diego County confirmed that an estimated 250,000 people had been evacuated as the fires raced towards built-up residential areas.
San Diego County Sheriffs revealed that a total of 194,673 households had been evacuated in rural areas across the region.

These fires were exacerbated by two factors under our control: global warming and deployment of National Guard troops and equipment in Iraq. Demand that our government stop both of these!
