Rice Fire Update - The Rice Canyon fire near Fallbrook has consumed over 6,500 acres and destroyed over 500 homes, but at least the winds are beginning to die down.

Over 44,000 people have been evacuated from the communities of Fallbrook and Rainbow Heights as the fire continues to burn westward. Fire officials are not expecting this fire to be fully contained until November 1st!

Flames are moving towards moving toward Santa Margarita & Sandy Creek, and could become a threat to Oceanside as well. Spot fires from windblown embers have created two fires at Camp Pendleton and evacuation there could happen soon unless winds slacken tomorrow.

Fire officials said the blaze had destroyed 500 homes and damaged 30 others in Fallbrook and the eastern portion of Pala Mesa Village.

Firefighters are battling a 4-mile long front of the fire outside Fallbrook and Rainbow. The fire is zero percent contained and stretches from north of Mission Road almost to Highway 76 and Gird Road.

The Rice fire has burned 7,500 acres and is now 10% contained with full containment expected on October 28th, and full control expected by November 5th.
