Camp Pendleton Update at 2:30pm PST October 24, 2007

Horno Fire, which currently covers approximately 10,000 acres, is 40-50 percent contained.

The Wilcox Fire is approximately 100 acres and is 100 percent contained.

The five-acre fire near the Commissary (the Base’s largest grocery store) in the 21 Area is also 100 percent contained.

The Horno Fire has two heads, one north toward San Onofre and one south toward Pulgas Rd. The southern head is currently the lesser threat.

Efforts focused on the northern head include helicopter support and reverse fire operations. The reverse fires are controlled, intentional burns designed to prevent the Horno Fire from spreading.
