As you can see, the burn area and the mandatory evacuation area are both huge. The yellow area is under an advisory evacuation order, meaning it’s not yet mandatory to evacuate, but could become that way soon.

The Poomacha fire is the one that started yesterday morning on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. The Witch Creek fire has burned for three days now and proved to be virtually unstoppable because of huge flames and firestorm conditions.

The Poomacha and Witch Creek fires have burned over 200,000 acres and are now threatening more heavily populated areas as they move west toward the Pacific Ocean.

As of 7:00 am PST, air tankers and helicopters are attacking the huge blaze, but there is no containment line yet established. New evacuation areas are being advised to get ready to go on a moment’s notice.

In San Diego County, the wildfires have burned 410,000 acres or 640 square miles. At least 1,300 homes have been destroyed and damage estimates top $100 million.

And that’s the latest update on the Witch Creek Poomacha fires merge.
