San Diego Fires Update - Here’s the latest update on the San Diego fires as of 8:00 am PST on 10-24 with the merging of the Poomacha fire and the Witch Creek fire being the scariest.
Poomacha fire is moving toward Palomar Mountain on the north side and the Cleveland National Forest on the east side. This fire has merged with the Witch Creek fire overnight and one fork of it has doubled back toward Fallbrook.
In destroyed homes alone, estimated losses in San Diego County now top $1 billion.
Witch Fire has burned 196,420 acres. More than 500 homes, 100 businesses and 50 outbuildings have been destroyed and 375 other structures damaged.Â
Harris Fire burned 72,000 acres so far and 200 homes have burned. One person has been killed and 21 people and 5 firefighters injured.
At least 7,500 acres in Fallbrook have burned with only 10% containment. There are 206 homes and 2 commercial properties destroyed. One firefighter has been injured.
More tha 20,000 acres burned on the La Jolla Indian Reservation by Poomacha fire. 50 homes are destroyed and 2,000 more homes are threatened. Ten firefighters have been injured fighting this blaze.Â
6,000 acres of Camp Pendleton have burned. Camp Pendleton fire is reported 10 percent contained. Â
Witch Fire conditions reported improving on the west lines of the fire. Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Escondido areas are among those improving. Multiple firefighting resources have been deployed this morning to protect these parts of San Diego county.
Rice Fire grew to approximately 8000 acres overnight. Â

NEW: MANDATORY EVACUATIONS IN DELUZ
6:06 a.m. - Mandatory Evacuations have been issued for the Deluz area due to the Rice Fire burning near Fallbrook.
NEW: MANDATORY EVACUATIONS ISSUED NEAR PALOMAR MOUNTAIN
6:00 a.m - Mandatory Evacuations are in effect near Palomar Mountain in the North County. Approximately 167 households have been ordered out in Birch Hill. Officials say the Poomacha Fire, burning on the La Jolla Indian Reservation is now threatening that community.
NEW: FALLBROOK EVACUATION UPDATE
5:00 a.m. - Fallbrook is under mandatory evacuation orders. According to the city’s Sheriff’s Department, the fires that started at Camp Pendleton have doubled back and are heading east toward the city.
Mandatory evacuations are issued for the Bonsall, San Luis Rey Heights and Winterwarm communities on the north side of SR 76. Residents are being asked to take State Route 76 heading west away from the fires.
