San Diego Fires - Latest Update 10-25 8:00am PST - San Diego news conference announces that all city residents should be able to return home today. Note that’s residents of the CITY OF SAN DIEGO only, not the surrounding communities where the San Diego fires have burned.

In a horrible example of the dangers of ignoring mandatory evacuation orders, two burned bodies were found in a home in Poway, said San Diego County Sheriff Bill Kolender.

The area fires have burned 350,000 acres in San Diego County, making the 2007 San Diego fires the worst wildfires ever.

Latest updates on specific fires:
Lighter winds helping firefighters but no major fire is more than 40% contained. 8500 homes are still threatened.

The Horno fire at Camp Pendleton continues to threaten power lines from the San Onofre nuclear power plant. Camp Pendelton fires are 40-45% contained, danger is that there are two heads to the fire. No new relocations in last 12 hrs.

Harris Fire at 84,000 acres burned and that fire is a major threat now in Lyons Valley. Harris fire has destroyed 155 structures. See link to damaged structures list at end of article.

Witch Fire at 190,170 acres burned, now 20% contained. 1061 residences have been destroyed by Witch fire. Firefighters have made gains as weather change has helped.

Poomacha fire at 35,000 acres burned and is now 10% contained. 700 personnel assigned to fire, not officially merged with Witch Fire but close.

Rice Fire at 9500 acres burned, 20% contained, burning north to Riverside, 1000 firefighters on line.

Other Fire News:
The Santiago Fire has spread into the Cleveland National Forest, so containment has gone from 50% to about 30% overnight. Santiago fire has been declared arson and $70,000 reward now being offered for info leading to arrest of those responsible.

In San Bernardino County, police shot and killed an arsonist Tuesday after he rammed a police vehicle trying to elude capture. The 27-year old Arizona man was spotted acting suspiciously in the scrub directly behind Cal State San Bernardino.

Police also arrested another arsonist who was caught in the act and tried to escape on a motorcycle. Sheriff’s officials say John Alfred Rund, 48, of Hesperia had just started a fire along the side of Highway 173, just south of Arrowhead Lake Road.

San Diego Emergency Management posted at 6:30am on 10-25, a new list of damaged structures from fires in unincorporated areas of San Diego County.
