Dr Oz Green Drink Recipe- As seen on Oprah, here is the recipe for the Dr. Oz green drink that’s all the rage for healthy raw food intake.

Dr. Oz is on Oprah for a two-part show on eating healthy and getting more raw foods packed with nutrients into your body.
Dr. Oz preferred method is a green juice drink made from fresh greens and vegetables. Beginners may want to include more fruits like apples to add sweetness to what can sometimes taste like swamp water to the uninitiated.

Dr. Oz Green Drink Recipe
- 2 apples, cored
- 2 big handfuls of spinach
- 1/2 cup of chopped parsley
- 1 celery stick, chopped
- 1 thumbnail length of ginger root, peeled
- 1 lemon - juice only (use peel slice for zest)
- 1 medium cucumber
Place ingredients in a blender, add 4 oz. spring water or a handful of ice cubes, then puree quickly for one minute. Makes two glasses of Dr. Oz’s green drink.
The green drink has a strong taste and if you are used to drinking soda or sweet tea, the taste will take some getting used to. Dr. Oz suggests adding other items at first to sweeten the green drink to your taste.
Green drink - Optional ingredients:
- 2nd cucumber
- raw carrot
- unsweetened fruit juice
- banana
And that’s the recipe for the Dr Oz Green Drink.

I love Oprah but I don’t think I can drink that green goo!
November 6th, 2007 at 10:36 am
I am going to make this but my question is: How many calories is the basic drink?
November 6th, 2007 at 11:00 am
At 73 I am so unhappy with my life. Fat, alone, and just miserable. I try to walk but it hurts when I am so fat. I used to use my above gr. pool. Too fat now. I saw this green drink and I want to live and be healthy so I will try it if NO MATTER WHAT IT TASTES LIKE. I have all the ing. here now so with Gods help…. I will get back with you in a week and let you know how I am doing. I am the only one in my family ALMOST healthy,,, just fat. Sister and Bro. have had heart surgeries, one has pulminary fibrosis, daughter trying to get into Mayo Clinic with serious healthy problems. Wish Me luck God Bless

I seriously doubt that the lemon is added whole. For one, he says it’s mainly to brighten the flavor because of the other bitter ingredients and lemon rind itself is bitter. Two, lemon rind would be difficult to blend well (as would a celery stalk). Is this the version published in Dr. Oz’s book? If so, one would think that a high-quality food processor is needed. That being said, I have a food processor and can’t wait to try it.
Thank you.

To Muareen:
You can do it! Is there anyone in you life that would give you strong support in your effort? In addition to your desire to be healthy, that may help.
Way to go!

On Monday’s TV show he said 4 stalks of celery and 1/2 inch of ginger. I looked here to see the amounts of the other ingredients, but I am wondering where did this recipe come fromsince it is different. The book?

I made it this morning and at first it was bad! But then I added another half of a lime (juice only) and it was much better. I think I need a better blender because mine wasn’t nearly as smooth as their’s was but overall it wasn’t bad. I want to know what it’s nutritional value is though. What are the facts on this green drink?!?! Thank you!

I too saw a different recipe on Oprah’s show than is listed in this website. I tried the one from the show. I cut the apples in small chunks with the peel on, cut the celery in small pieces, used the juice from the lemon and lime. It took me 1/2 hour of pulsing, stirring, pulsing stirring since my blender just would not mix the stuff up.
If anyone has a suggestion on how to do this faster, please let me know. Mine was lumpy but I did like the taste.
November 6th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
As a canadian i hope it works trying to get healthy and my boys to …
November 6th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Do you add the fruits whole? IE: the lemon and lime?
November 6th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
I have a juicer at home, so I would consider using that. But if he says to for sure blend it, then blend it, but strain it using a very fine strainer, unless of course you enjoy drinking all the pulp….yuck….
November 6th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
IF you watched the 1st show that had the young lady with cancer; she used a juicer while showing the audience how she makes her drink in the morning. I have used my juicer to make this drink & it is delicious. Good luck.
November 6th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
This drink is not new only new to new listeners.
In order to blend this to liquid you need a Vita Mix Blender
with a VitaMix you can juice any combination of fresh
vegetables/fruits/nuts/seeds/oils & drink yourself to
health. A regular blender can’t blend it lkie it shows on
the Oprah show & with a Vita Mix you can juice & also
enjoy the fiber which you can’t do with a juicer.
I don’t work for Vita Mix I just use one & enjoy good health. thanks..rmo
November 6th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Why not skip the blender bit and eat it as a salad? Sounds yummier to me and still the same nutritional value.
November 6th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
I’ve read that it’s not good to mix fruits and vegetables together because they take different enzymes to digest. For optimum health, ideally you should use a juicer, not blender and juice the veggies only that are listed in Dr. Oz’s recipe. To your good health!
November 7th, 2007 at 7:25 am
As humans, we are omnivors. Our digestive system has evolved over thousands of years. We break down foods without having to worry about what order we eat them. Whole, raw fruits and veggies are great for us. Some people have problems with higher fiber sources, but some fiber is good for all. Eat your fruits and vegetables together or not, but do eat them. I like the idea of eating this as a salad. Drink for breakfast, salad for lunch w/ firm tofu. Sounds great! Cheers.
November 7th, 2007 at 9:09 am
Note to Christina….the reference to the peel does not mean to add it. Add the juice only but reserve the peel for later use for zest in recipes. The best way I know of to do that is to wrap it in a wet durable paper towel and put it in an air tight container. A little zest goes a long way in most recipes…great for baking or for a cream sauce over noodles!
November 7th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
Ok, just ran to Safeway this morning, bought all the ingredients, and tried the recipe. I am EXTREMEMLY allergic to raw fruits and vegetables (still an enigma to my doctors, and have yet to go to an allergist) so, needless to say, I was more worried about a reaction to all of the raw ingredients then anything else! So far so good. I took a claritin and drank half so far. The flavor is ok, but the consistency is a bit thick for me. I added some Perrier toward the end of blending, but it’s still pretty darn thick…I think I will try this for breakfast for a while and see if I can notice a difference in my energy levels, I’ve never been one for health or eating right or taking that great care of myself, so maybe this is a good first step. I’m a mom of 3 and I turned 30 this year. My teenie bopping ways are definately ways of the past, so I hope this is a good start! Good luck, everyone!
November 7th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
My Husband and I just made the green drink and find it WONDERFUL. Our blender is a Kitchenaid with a liquify button and really blended it well. We heard the receipe with 4 celery stalks so did a search and found the actual receipe and only used 1/2 cucumber because we couldn’t fit any more in.
November 7th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Maureen I don’t know you but I love you. I was in your position this time last year, waiting for knee replacement and needing to lose weight, but not being able to run or walk was a hardship. Write down everything you eat and the calorie content. It keeps you honest. Find something to be happy about every day, listen to a bird sing, smell a flower. Get out of the house. Sit in the fresh air. I found that even with a bad knee and overweight, I could use the Ab Lounger and have had great success with that. Please do not give up.

Dr. Oz,
The drink was soo fresh and good. I added WATERMELLON , and it was great.
I am a feng shui consultant’naturalist’ and like to refer to chinese cure with food/life style Since watermelon is great for sore throat l and fat buster : as well. ( I had a little sore throat yesterday). I feel 100% again in less than 2 hours. I thought I pass on this great source of information: Dr. Henry Liu’s CHINESE SYSTEM OF FOOD CURES.if you can find it… sterling publication, lib. of congress catalogin data, revised 1986. Thie drink is a feng shui way to blend food, nature for optimum health! Mia Chen

November 7th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
I just used my regular blender and chopped everything up into ~1″ pieces and it worked fine. You just have to press down one or two times early on to get everything to “catch” on the blades. And, if you still have problems, add more water.
.
juicers take the pulp out of stuff, which is good for making drinks smooth, but the fiber that it strains out is good for you so you should use the blender to retain all that fiber.
.
I made this exactly as written and it was good. Try it!
November 7th, 2007 at 10:13 pm
I made it tonight, but I put in half a banana and a packet of sweetner…even my 5 and 10 yr olds drank a half a glass! it isn’t bad at all! It is a cup of “fresh”…I already made a zip lock bag of all the ingredients for tomorrow!
November 8th, 2007 at 9:52 am
Who doesn’t need more veggies in their diet?! Maureen, hang in there! I believe in you and I know you believe in yourself. You can do it!
I’m going to juice more. Especially with the colder season upon us, I tend to eat more and thus gain weight. This would be a great alternative.

Does anyone have the recipe from the Oprah Show on the Green drink. It is slightly different than what is writtien here.
Thanks!!

I am 71, and i feel great most of the time. I am fat, but have now lost 26 lbs and going for another 25. I ride an aydine bike for 20 min. and swim laps for 20min. I have authr and find going down steps a job, but if i ride the bike i have much less stiffness. I am in 2 red hat groups, babysit for my 3 yr old grand daughter, have just created a squar foot garden and plan to grow green spinach etc. I think i can take care of this square foot garden - will let you know. I help my son with his business, love to paint - don’t find time though. Plan to read all of the Dr ozs book and get healthy. Cheers with the green drink!!!!!

I followed the recipe exactly, too. Added more water to thin it. I love it. I might tweak it a bit. I love ginger. Not too big on celery, so I might add a little less. Yum!
November 8th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
I’m disappointed…I made the drink according to the SHOW. I have a stomach ache now and didn’t even drink a 3rd of it! Not to mention the $10 to buy all the ingredients that is now a ruined green mess in my blender. For one thing, the show said (cuz I Tivo’d it) a whole lime, whole lemon and no mention of water. So, I got a very lemony/limy/bitter drink (of course, with the peel intact!) .. it’s too tart and that’s probably what’s upsetting my tummy. I did add ice later and more apple, but it’s still way too overpowered by the citrus. I guess I might try it again, but a whole lemon and lime, I think, are OVERKILL. Does anyone know how much of the recommended daily allowance this is supposed to provide? And do you, in fact, consume the whole blender-ful? And, can you freeze it for later if you don’t? Thank you!!
November 8th, 2007 at 1:44 pm
Colleen,
This might help…
I followed the recipe on this website, not the TV show. I used the following:
1 gala apple, cored, not peeled
1 handful fresh spinach
1/2 cucumber, peeled
1 sliver of fresh ginger root
1 handful of fresh parsley
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup water plus a few ice cubes
I added the apple chunks a few at a time to make it easier on my blender. It made enough for 2. I drank a tall glass and that was plenty. I loved it! I hope this helps.

Maureen,
DON”T GIVE UP! There are a TON of us out here who support you 100%. For what its worth, I recently met a 67 year old man who told me the most amazing story.
Apparently at 61, he was fat and balding and getting old (well, that had been happening for a while, but I guess he suddenly woke up and realized it). He had just had a grandson and could barely play with him, because he lacked the energy. So one day, he just started walking. The first day, he walked to the house next door. Then to three houses down. Then to the end of the block. In a year, he was running a mile. By the second year, he had lost 100 lbs and ran his first marathon. When I met him, he had run 17 marathons and now he focuses just on swimming (since its easier on his knees) and yoga. What he told me was that firstly, you need determination and a goal, and you need to go SLOW. Don’t push yourself too hard and don’t get down on yourself.
I took his advice. At that time, I had injured myself horribly, and I’ve been swimming/walking regularly since then. Its true. You CAN do it. Just believe in yourself, start slow and do something that feels good and right everyday.
November 8th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Can you use a juicer?
November 9th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
I made this drink and was a little scared of how it might taste. But it actually tastes good and the plus is it’s really healthy for you!
November 9th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
I don’t care what it taste like. I’d rather be healthy than sickly!!! The “green goo” may add years to your life and that’s worth any taste…almost.
November 9th, 2007 at 5:57 pm
I tried it - didn’t like it. However, for people who want to try an alternative, or want something more convenient, most grocery stores, especially places like Whole Foods and Fresh Market have similar drinks. Odwalla Superfood and Bolthouse Farms are the most popular (both have websites if you want to review), but there are other brands. They also have other drinks with all natural combinations of ingredients. I actually like Superfood and Bolthouse green drinks, and it is easy enough to throw in some protein powder to make it a protein drink. The trade-off is expense, but these are convenient, always ready, and last a while in the fridge. If you factor in the expense of loading up on fruits and veggies to make the drink, and potential waste, it may be cheaper in the long run. Obviously, look for all-natural, with no sweeteners, preservatives, etc.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
i can drink this i add a little 100% organic maple syrup or honey not much, watch calories & carbs. i use my vita mix blender. and all the fiber is great for colon cancer prevention. drink up. medicine taste way worse, medical bills high, we can,t afford to be sick, let,s go u.s.a get on board health train.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
I do not and never have enjoyed eating veggies, but I love this. I think using a vita mixer is the only way to go, (you can puree a 2×4 in this thing!). I’ve made 4 batches now and just alter it slightly each time to get it to where I like it. I found 1 1/2 celery stalk the best with 1/2 cucumber skin and all. I cut down slightly on the Italian Parsley and used about 2 to 3 oz of water. I did put about 1/2 juice as well and found this the best recipe. You can pick up a used vita mixer on Ebay or your local buy and sell.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
wanted to add in my previous comment, should be 1/2oz of juice added.
November 11th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Dearest Maureen:
God bless you for going online and just putting it out there. As you can see by all the comments sent back to you, the universe cares!! I don’t have a lot of family either so I think about all the good feelings sent out by my small but close group of friends. God never forgets us! So make the drink and start walking like the other writer said. Start walking slowly, use that time to meditate on what you would like to do to help yourself be healthier. You are already blessed when you say that you have NOT contracted heart disease. Make this your time to be a better you.
November 13th, 2007 at 12:37 pm
Thank you to EVERYONE on this page!
I have yet to try the drink as I have just found this site today, but I will be trying it. You comments have been most encouraging and I will be buying the ingredients today and trying it out for myself.
I am sooooo tired and lack energy. I need to lose weight (69 pounds to start) and a week ago I started a stretching and walking program today I will add the green drink to my lifestyle change. This is the biggest I’ve ever been at 268, the 69 pounds will get me just under 200 pounds.
I’ll share my results which I am looking forward to and my next entry will not be so wordy…(smile).
Thanks All!
November 13th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
I tried this… I used a Vita Mix (Yes, I think you COULD put a 2×4 in there!) and it worked great. I’d seen it on TV and had forgotten the parsley, but I’ll add it next time. I did not add the rinds of the lemon or lime. The first taste was a little odd, but after that I loved it. It tasted so fresh and healthy.
Maureen, I’m walking in your shoes. I’m at that same point of desperation. I’ve been overweight for years, recently lost 60 pounds on Atkins but gained it all back and probably more this past year. Up until this past year I was at least active and able to keep up with friends and family. Now I’m tired all the time. If I don’t do something NOW I’ll be wheel-chair bound and beyond help before I know it. I need to start slowly with exercise and get serious about eating healthy. We can do this!!!! God bless.
November 13th, 2007 at 3:15 pm
You can do this Maureen! I lost 105 lbs. over a two-year period by not eating white foods, bread, rice, potatoes, etc., no sugar except fruit, and and lots of protein and veggies. It works, just takes a while. I also walked about 30-40 min. most days. I am over 50, have fibromyalgia and I was amazed how much better I felt. A real bonus is that I can now cross my legs and walk up stairs without pulling myself up with the rail. People are very supportive and say the nicest things. I found some even didn’t recognize me! But some didn’t know what to say because they didn’t want me to think they thought I was an unloveable fluffy person before. People who truly love you love you no matter what your size, something I wasn’t so sure of before. I am so looking forward to this green drink. I want more energy, something the fibromyalgia takes away. You will find new energy in your life and new life in your energy. God bless you!

I don’t know why it’s different but here is the recipe according to the Oprah website,
2 cups of spinach
2 cups of cucumber
1 head of celery
1/2 inch or teaspoon of ginger root
1 bunch of parsley
2 apples
juice of one lime
juice of 1/2 a lemon
I guess both recipes are healthy, but this one is a little more accurate.
November 17th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
I like the green drink, but I had to do a little tweaking of the formula. Used lime juice and a little lemon juice as my lemon was seedy and not very juicy and the lime was very juicy. I think I like it better that way anyhow. Just had powdered ginger, but I bet the root is better. Added about 2 c. cold water due to the thickness of the ingredients. It’s still quite thick but I am drinking all the pulp because I know the fiber is good for you. I was surprised that it tastes more like a fruit drink than a veggie drink. I did add 2 apples, peeled. No one else in my family is brave enough to even try it, but it tastes surprisingly good and gives you a good feeling to drink it because it just seems so healthy.
November 17th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Oh, I forgot to say, I think the best part is to drink it in a really pretty glass, like a large stemmed wine glass or something you love. It seems silly but really makes it an even more pleasant experience to sip.
November 18th, 2007 at 10:34 am
I throw everything in my Jack Lalanne juicer and use one quarter of the lemon and lime (rind and all). I have never gotten more compliments on my skin and hair than when I am consistently juicing every day. I agree with Lynda about drinking it in a pretty glass. Lift up the glass after pouring in the juice and look at the life going on in there! You just KNOW it’s going to be good for you.
As far as fiber is concerned, there is still fiber in the juice when using a juicer, just not the pulp. I don’t care too much for that thickness. And the good thing about the Jack Lalanne juicer is that you don’t have to peel or core anything! I have a wire brush that I give my vegetables a good scrub with under cold water and then in the juicer it goes!
November 19th, 2007 at 9:21 am
Blessings to all,
Well, i made the drink, a blender full.
got use to it on the second day.added two glasses of water.
My question is , how many days can it stay in fridge. does it loose it’s potency?
By the way it taste fine.
GO! Maureen………hang in there.
November 19th, 2007 at 1:33 pm
I halfed the recipe and it worked nicely with the Magic Bullet–a lot less expensive than the vita-mix blender plus little to clean-up.
November 23rd, 2007 at 3:26 pm
I love the green drink. The first time I made it I added pineapple for sweetness and the 2nd time used chard from the garden in place of spinach and added grapes for sweetness. The vita mix blender is the only way to go.
My goal is 1 glass a day in stead of coffee in the morning.
My children both tasted it and found it okay. It is amazing to get all those fruits and vegetables in one place at one time. Thank you Dr. Oz.
November 26th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
* TIP * If your using carrots and celery in the juicer or the blender put them in whole and straight with the largers ends facing down. Cutting them up may just make them swirl around in the blender.
keep up the good work all, we are well on our way to a healthier, happier, green life!
November 26th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
I based my version on the recipe from the Oprah show site, but changed it to suit my taste…more fruit, less celery, etc. I drink part right away, put part in the fridge for the next day and also freeze some. I used a regular blender. If you don’t like it much just fresh, try it cold. Or change the recipe around like I did, to suit yourself. It’s not bad!

Very interesting… as always! Cheers from -Switzerland-.

I made the recipe and added 1 cup water and omited the celery. Delicious. A couple of weeks later I added 1-3 pieces of arugula and flax seeds. Oh my gosh, so great and now it was more like a soup I could serve at dinner. It had a savory element to it. Careful on the arugula though. Enjoy.

Hi,
I’m wanting to try this drink. Does anyone have any smell from the ginger root? Is it like garlic or garlic tabs and you can smell it coming from your pores? Thanks.
December 4th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Where can I get this protein powder I’ve been seeing in these recipes?
December 4th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
ROSE - Ginger is nothing like garlic.
You cant even taste it in the drink. If you have issues with strong flavors, I’d suggest making this on sweet end. I add a teaspoon of honey…it goes well with the cucumber belive it or not! My 20 month old cant get enough of this drink. I make it and drink the whole blender in one sitting.
December 17th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
I read all of the post a bit late, but in case there are any more readers, just wanted to share: I purchased a juicer (Breville) and used 1 cucumber, 4 celery stalks, 1 cup of spinach, 1/2 of the bunch of parsley, 2 small apple (whole) 1 lemon (whole) peeled ginger root (size of thumb) and washed everything and placed whole items into juicer. This juicer is the heavy duty 850 watt and will juice a whole apple or lemon without peeling or cutting in half. I then poured the juice into a blender for 30 seconds on high and serve over ice! DELICIOUS!!! and it will stay fresh overnight. I feel great after drinking it.
December 26th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Marth Stewart makes this same recipe. And she uses a juicer. She has the video on her web site of how to make it exactly. It’s called Green Vegetable Cocktail. And she even tells where she ordered her juicer. I bought the juicer and started making the cocktail, and absoutly love it.
December 26th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
I even went as far as to freeze banana/apple juice from the jucier in an ice tray to put into my drink to keep it chilled. Very simple to do.
December 30th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
I found it a bit strong on the parsley so will cut back on that next time. And I love ginger so will add more of that next time. It’s a great recipe. Will continue to make it and drink it daily. Love it!
January 1st, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Wow! It was so filling, I couldn’t finish it even though I cut the recipe in half! So I froze the leftovers in ice cube trays and added two cubes to my morning berries and soy milk smoothie - no waste and so delicious!
January 9th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
My name is Hema, I have started this drink very same day I watched the show and I can feel the difference. My husband has to drink this with me every morning. It works
January 10th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Juicing is nothing new. I have been doing this for years. Dr. Oz goes on oprah and all of sudden people think it’s a godsend. a litte research and self learning would have told anyone this hd they cared about their health that much.
go to the store. buy a book. it’s easy. and as for the lady who is apparently alleric to raw foods…are you kidding me? you are actually saying that you can only eat processed foods? that doesn’t even make sense.

The person who says she is allergic to all fruits and veggies.. might think about the pesticides used. I’ll bet you are hypersensitive to pesticides..even when washed from fruit and veggies. Anything, including this drink is better than America’s ususal fare of: A big Mac and fries! Supersized!!

I have tried if you add fruit, it is like a smoothie with a grassy fresh taste it is refreshing and not that bad!!! I use my blender and I actually can see myself doing it. My friend says when she stopped her body craved it so the body likes it too. I started with an 8 oz glass, she normally drinks 32 oz through the morning.

I have been making this green drink every day. Each day I vary it a little. I would never have thought of blending it.
I prepare it in the Jack LaLane power juicer (sold online) where it makes two 16 pz glasses. One for me and one for my daughter. I did not add the spinach yet, only because I think it is less expensive in summer.
Here is what I add
___________________________________________
4-5 stalks celery
1/2 inch of ginger root (about same volume of 9V battery)
1 bunch of parsley(usually sold this way in store)
1/2 lemon (sometimes I add all of it)
1/2 lime (sometimes I add all of it)
4-5 small apples( slighlty smaller than a tennis ball)
1 large cucumber(or 1-1 1/2 smaller ones)
________________________________________
I slice off the peel of the lemon and lime usually leaving the white part. I also peel the ginger root with a paring knife. I also peel most of the cucumber. I think the juicer will work better if I partly peel some of the vegies or
apples. the apples I just cut in half.
I some times will add a couple of carrots or more or less apples.
The recipe listed above is what I liked the best. I thought the 1/2 lime and 1/2 lemon tasted better than the whole fruit.
Let me know if anyone else likes this as much as I do.

stop stop stop adding water there is enough water in the veg. i have lost 45 kilos using grean drinks for two meals a day my three kids also drink this for breakfast we add brocoli carrot tomato whatever just don’t use choy sum (it makes it tast like spicy penut butter) my kids are 2,4 and 9 and i am 25 just add whatever preferably somthing of each colour as they contain different nutrients also vary with nut or rice or green coconut milk smoothies with raw cacoa, powder butter and nibs it gives you a buzz i meen it really gives you a buzz. grow some vegies and herbs add them, mint is great, blueberries give a fun purple colour added anti oxidents are a bonus. freeze leftovers as ice blocks for more nutrional info i would do searches for david wolfe he is the true expert also add blue green alge spirullina gogi powder macca powder just check out david wolfe water melon is a great way to add water and sweetness rock melon frozen ads a great feel on the palete btw i only wash no peeling ore coring its all good i am sure ther are nutrients in apple seeds lol i also use a $30 blender but am saving for the new 3 hp vita mix to make life easier i use a juicer or processer plunger to push the food down. go easy on the acidic fruit and veg.
March 3rd, 2008 at 8:54 am

For all those who like the green drink you may also like Ann Wigmore’s book: ‘The Blending Book’ (1997) which has lots of different recipies for your blender and LOTS of great health info. At 50 years of age she healed herself of colon cancer, migraines, arthritis and her natural hair color came back, just by blending up these kinds of living foods. She believes that anyone can heal pretty much anything in 2-4 weeks while strictly on this diet and I am a believer!! CHECK IT OUT!!!

I will clarify what Ann Wigmore ACTUALLY states in her book: “The body will heal itself of any illness when it is given living, enzyme-rich, easy-to-digest nourishment. Anyone can experience the benefits of such nourishment in just two to four weeks of blended living foods”.

I’ve been using the green drink recipe off and on for the last 2 months and love it. I couldn’t use my regular blender so I used my food processor to blend everything together. It was very mushy and hard to easily drink. I couldn’t afford the Vitamix so I decided to try the Jack Lalanne Healthmaster blender. So far it has been wonderful! It blends this up in under 1 minute and it’s like a regular smoothie. A high powered blender is the way to go. I bought mine at Ebay brand new for under $100….this blender has made all the difference in the world.

If you don’t care for the taste, I’d suggest you add a splash of vodka or rum!! You can serve an “Adult Green Drink” or a “Virgin Green Drink”!
Enjoy!

Seems, interesting I wonder if this drink, which by the way seems pretty healthy is better than some of the better green powder supplements out there (Green magma, barleans, kyogreen….).
Blending would also seem better than juicing because you get the whole fruit and vegetables. Does anyone know the direct effect this juice has on your skin, I am being a little vain here, if you don’t mind? THanks and good look to you all on your quest to health!

I just made the Dr. Oz green drink and it was really quick and easy to do. I just used a hand blender. The trick is not to make too much at once. (Unless you are making it for more than one person of course)
I took only half an apple, half a cucumber, a hand full of spinach, one celery stick, ginger and juice of half a lemon (giner and lemon, to taste really) all chopped up into small pieces, added water and blend.
It took all of 5 min to prepare and I didn’t waste anything. It made exactly one glass.
I have washed and peeled the ingredients so the next time I want to make it I just toss it in a jug and blend!
It is really yummy and I can actually taste the goodness!

was this meant to be a diet drink..unless I missed something on the show I didn’t hear anything on the show that suggested that it would help you lose weight…it just gives you the vitamins and minerals you need in a drink.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:37 am
To Jamie,
According the the Opera Show, this is how you make the green drink:
4 stalks celery
1 cucumber
1 cup spinach
1 large apple
1 lemon
1 lime
1/2 inch piece of ginger root
You’re welcome!!
August 6th, 2008 at 1:00 am
How often should this be drank or drunk ; ) ??
Does he have anymore or is this the signature drink?

If Oz or Oprah suggested putting poop in a blender and adding urine as the suspension agent (or emulsifier), there are those unfortunate souls who couldn’t defaecate and urinate fast enough to give it a try.
Come on folks! There isn’t any magic potion to this drink. But Oz, the word, seems to evoke such images in the mind of many. The fact is…
Where Oz and Oprah are concerned….
2 x O = O
August 6th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
I’m thinking maybe some kiwi fruit, fresh pineapple or crystal lite might help with taste if the original drink doesn’t appeal to you.
Of course I haven’t tried the original yet, but I will.
August 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Fabulous! I consider it to be more like a cold soup however. Rule number 1, not mentioned on Oprah…
DO NOT MIX IN BLENDER WITH LID OFF USING A FORK TO PUSH THE INGREDIENTS DOWN!
I did and had whirled green everywhere…my hair, the cupboards, the walls, the ceiling, and the floor.
August 7th, 2008 at 11:27 am
I was sooo skeptical going into the preparation of this drink. The smell after mixing the first few ingredients didn’t help. But after adding everything and taking the first dreaded sip, it was surprisingly good. I added a splash of unsweetened pineapple juice and it made a great breakfast. I was also worried that my blender wouldn’t be able to handle all of the raw stuff, but I blended a few items at a time and it worked really well.

Maureen Eastwood i was sadden by your write up on the green drink. Maureen if you have not invited the LORD into your heart Please do so today John 3:16 We all have fallen short of the glory of GOD and need a
savior (Jesus) who died for all not some all our sins. You are never along with him he will be whatever you need him to be for example a friend, a healer … the list is endless he is awesome GOD! I love you and pray your journey to good health is a success. I have not tried the green drink i will try it this week I thank everyone for there ideas.
August 8th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
I just made myself a green drink, hummmmm, just delicious! Instead of lemon juice, just add orange juice and one or two handfull of spinach…add flax seed if you wish (about 1 table spoon) and add whatever your heart desires…remember that your heart desires healthy food and you’ll never go wrong…once in the blender, mix well, it becomes a delicious green drink shake…hmmm…. I feel good already…
August 12th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Let’s be honest…it’s not the best tasting thing. That being said, I added watermelon, and peaches to help the taste out. I also added about 4oz. of water and a handful of ice cubes. This helped the taste out some. It still is very pulpy and it was blended in a high power blender/juicer.
p.s. I like the idea of adding mint leaves to it…gonna give that a try. (why couldn’t everything just be mixed together in a salad?)

This Juice is so good! I just whipped some up. It doesn’t taste bad at all… I went into it thinking “I’ll drink it no matter what it tastes like” But I can see myself starting to look forward to my morning green drink! Thanks Dr. Oz!!

Hey… Try the Magic Bullet to blend this drink… And it is healthy but you cant loose weight just by this drink… I have lost 30 pounds in 3 1/2 months… by eating no “crap food” and going to the gym 5 days a week!!!!
I didn’t need no “Green Drink”
P.S. I Am Canadian!!!!!
August 27th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
I added one packet of Stevia® natural sweetener to the recipe. It really adds to the deliciousness and makes the parsley and spinach go down easily. Also, fresh ginger is fantastic.
I find it a challenge to get 5-a-Day, especially dark green veggies. Even though I’ve never been able to take even one sip of green colored Odwalla or wheatgrass juices or any of that crazy stuff, this Green Drink makes achieving 5-a-day a breeze. So tasty. I’m delighted.
August 30th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
I have tried the drink a couple of times and really like the taste (I did add some honey) and think it would be a good way to get more veggies in my diet. BUT, each time I have gotten somach cramps and diarrhea the second day. Not sure what could be causing it as I have eaten all separately but not as much parsley (I used a half bunch each time). Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:06 pm
I finally tried this drink two weeks ago. I didn’t have any parcley at the time, so I used a couple of fresh basil leaves. (not bad by the way)
The first time, I added a little too much ginger, so I had to make some adjustments. I’ve also tried it with fresh parcley and fresh mint, and it’s great. I do, however, have to lighten up on the celery. I didn’t realize the recipe called for ONLY one celery stalk. That explains the strong celery taste. haha…DUH!
Anyway, like Oprah said, it tastes really fresh. That’s the only way to describe it. My boyfriend tried it. He wasn’t totally overjoyed, but I got him to drink it not once, but twice! :o)
September 4th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I just tried the juice today with a friend of mine, and wow!! Its delicious!! I thought the texture was going to be like a V-8 juice, but it was more, in a good way!!
September 18th, 2008 at 9:14 am
We tried this recipe but we misread it and put cucumber, celery, spinach, apple, ginger and a peeled lime, and JUICED it in a JUICER and it is DELICIOUS! In a blender, the celery would be stringy, the cucumber too gelatinuos.
I recommend trying to juice it in a power juicer.

Hi All,
Good to see you all trying to get healthy. Please understand this. Your food has to be nutritionally rich. Unfortunately with our bad farming practices our range and farm land soils don’t contain very many minerals and vitamins anymore. This is what we need for god health.
The body breaks down when it doesn’t have the nutrition supplied to it that enables it to rebuild and repair itself. We are self healing organisms and this is how our bodies heal.
I have launched a free information website on health so people can learn more about how we changed our health for the better and how you can also do the same. The site is packed with amazing information that 99% of you will have never read.
It’s time for you to get excited about your life and to get healthy. Health is Wealth! It is your life and it’s you who can change it.
Go to http://www.healthsecrets.com.au
Help yourself as we have provided the information, but it’s you who has to take the steps toward the life that you want.
Great Health To All.
Regards,
Paul.

Pineapple juice.
Thirty years ago my mother made a green drink using the recipe from Francis Moore Lappe’s “Diet for a Small Planet”. Even as teenager I found this drink quite palatable because my mom added pineapple juice before blending.
Reading Dr. Oz’s recipe is inspiring me to try it again after all these years. I can still remember how good I felt after I drank it for awhile; then life as a student etc. got me “off the wagon”.

So where’s Maureen………
Can I say that I have actually spent the time and gone over these messages that in between people saying “Opera Show” and people leaving off the lid when turning on the blender, Garlic being like Ginger my GOD, are you American’s for real. It’s as if you are being introduced to healthy living, fruits and veggies instead of the crap processed foods where your weight is massive and you are huge…I just can’t believe you people, just drink the drink and stop complaining about the taste, BE healthy and come on……..

Somewhere in all the rush to make money the art of understanding and preparing food that’s good for us got lost. But because of all the wealth generated, some people have been able to devote time to research, and found out that we natural beings respond well to consuming natural foods. Ironic, really! But a good thing in the end, if we can all end up moving towards being healthy again. I just enjoyed my first green drink, and it was great. Good luck to us all! Just remember to put the lid on…

First timers, be sure to use apples and bananas. That’s the key. And remember, Oprah is now back up to 200 lbs and can afford a personal chef, trainer, etc. so don’t be so hard on yourselves. It’s a mindset that takes time to connect to and completely dedicate oneself to. With that said I’m going to go up and walk on the tredmill and watch the snow falling on this beautiful wintery day in Illinois! Be very gentle to yourselves. Have a merry one all!

I bought a great juicer and tried the green drink–great. One questions — how much of the recipe do I drink at one time?
February 11th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
Here is the original green drink that Dr. Oz made on the show.
Good luck to you Maureen! I know you can do it.
Dr. Oz says he makes a breakfast drink for himself many mornings that he calls his green drink.
What’s in Dr. Oz’s green drink?
2 cups spinach
2 cups cucumber
1 head of celery
1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
1 bunch parsley
2 apples
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 lemon
After everything is combined in a blender, this recipe makes 28 to 30 ounces—about three to four servings. Oprah takes a sip and is pleasantly surprised. “It’s a glass of fresh,” she says.
Dr. Oz’s second drink might not be as pleasant, but it’s still important—a shot of cod liver oil. “First of all, cod liver oil has the right kind of vitamin D in itvitamin D3. That’s why people who live in the north lands who don’t get any sun at all can still survive. It’s got the healthy fats that you want in it,” Dr. Oz says.

I just tried this drink and like it! I added “hot sauce” and it kinda tastes like a “Bloody Mary.!” Maureen…. my heart goes out to you. I have organized a womens walk for women in the”hood.” I am 50 years young, my other neighbor is 72 and the third is 54. We are all over weight and have tried every diet. Believe me, the answer is simple, healthy food and exercise. Start a group…power in numbers, be accountable to other people. You go girl….you can do this.

I have information on other Green Drinks (Green Smoothies) on my website.
I got over my chronic fatigue syndrome when I added Green Smoothies to my diet along with getting off of refined sugar, wheat and dairy.
Everyone would benefit from adding a Green Smoothie (or a Blended Salad) to their diet daily (or better yet, twice daily!)
Also, if you join the Vita-Mix User’s Group (a Yahoo Group) you will get lots of support. Even if you don’t own a Vita-Mix, you can make the drinks in a regular blender until you can save up for one.
Blessings to you all (especially Maureen) and…
To Your Health!
