Girl With 8 Limbs – Lakshmi Tatma pictured below was born joined to a ‘parasitic twin’ and the 8-limbed baby is undergoing surgery today to remove four of her 8 limbs.

Complications for the girl born with 8 limbs are major: Lakshmi’s two spines are merged, she has four kidneys, entangled nerves, two stomach cavities and two chest cavities, plus she cannot stand up or walk because of the extra limbs.

Doctors are working to remove Lakshmi’s extra limbs and organs so she’ll have a normal anatomy, said Dr. Patil Mamatha of Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore India. There is a 25% chance the eight-limbed girl will not survive the 40-hour operation involving 30 surgeons working round the clock to save her.

The girl with eight limbs, Lakshmi, is named after the four-armed Hindu goddess of wealth, and some in her poor village in the northern state of Bihar revere her as a goddess.
Others sought to make money from her. Her parents, Shambhu and Poonam, hid her after a circus apparently tried to buy the girl, according to a report in the Hindustan Times.
Eight-Limbed Girl Surgery Video
“She’s a very cute girl,” Dr. Patil Mamatha said. “She’s very playful and gets along well with others.”
And that’s the latest news on the surgery for the Girl With 8 Limbs.

Wow! Great pics and video of little Lakshmi Tatma!
I don’t see how she could even get around at all with that huge extra torso with arms and legs hanging upside down from her abdomen.
The 8 limbs and segmented trunk kinda makes her look like a giant spider or something…
Hope her surgery goes OK!

I can’t believe you theists asking your god to bless her…isn’t he, according to your beliefs, the one who made her deformed in the first place?
Sebastian, may the FSM touch you with His noodly appendage.
I hope little Lakshmi escapes her culture someday and can live somewhere that medical problems aren’t seen as a magical reincarnation of a fictional being.

To start a big hi to Lakshmi
I pray that the cute little lakshmi become well soon and gel along a normal life like others. May God bless her with with good health and good luck
I myself am a mother of a baby girl and will soon turn to 1 year old. But she was born prematurely 6 months and 3 weeks. she weight only 1.4 kg. She was very weak and teh doctor had said that teh baby is too weak – we are observing her- and she becomes ok it will be a miracle. I cried a lot and prayed a lot . and today my baby is with me and growing well.
So dont worry lakshmi you will be ok cause lots of blessing are with you.

Karen, a Bright:
I’m sure there are cases like this in North America and Europe that can be medically explained.
It’s interesting how you make the India’s culture seem all horrible. I guess in the school that you went to when they taught other cultures they must have concentrated on only the bad aspects.
Atleast this small girl is being revered and showered with love and not seen as a freak like she would be in America or any European country where life can be sooooo superficial and outside appearance is all that counts.
Let’s not say statements like “I hope she escapes her culture” because her culture is beautiful and does have its positives just like any other culture in this world.
Let’s also not insult other religious groups since you obviously have not opened up your mind to the fact that there are other religions in this world other than judaism and christianity. Please educated yourself and then talk…..Ok?

Sweet Destiny,
I thought it was very admirable that you spoke up to another person whom obviously is very ignorant of other cultures.
I agree with all that you said and and watched 20/20 and just found out about little Laxmi. I was very happy to hear that the surgery was successful. I wish Laxmi and all her love ones a wonderful life, may god bless her and her family.
Also Sweet Destiny I commend you for your being open minded.
Knowledge is power and to live in ignorance is wrong.

God makes everything beautiful! Because of our sin our children pay. She is still a child of God!

SURE IT IS A GODS CHILD WHEN THEY ARE BORN LIKE THIS , BUT WHEN GOD MAKES YOU GAY OR HERMAPHRODITE YOU ARE A FREAK IT MAKES ME LAUGH
June 18th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
amazing what God can do to put others who think they are better off in perspective of their own blessings. i agree this is an amazing miracle that the child is alive and well. We as human beings are quick to judge and hasty to put ourselves above others. lets not forget, but for the grace of God…..

Lakshmi, first and for most you are favored by God and you are truly blessed. I know that everything will work out fine for you. Mom and Dad, you have to believe and trust in God, HE will make everything alright/ When I first heard your story, I broke in tears. I can only imagine what it like going thought this, but just remember that it will get better. Lakshmi you are a beautilful child. God Bless You

At least the parents accepted her with love and she looks like a happy child. And even though her parents felt she was a reincarnation of the goddess, they did not insist that she remain with the twin attached to her. They were flexible enough to agree to the surgery for her. This shows how much love and acceptance they gave that child.
I’m glad she made it through the surgery. It must have been painful for her to lose her twin although it was for the best.

HOW DOES SHE TAKE A CRAP?
January 13th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Poor girl I am glad she is doing well now. Her parents are evil they let her live like that for years without asking for help because she was “like a goddess”.
If god were real how could it forgive a parent doing that to their child. Also how can god bless her when he made her that way.
I hope she escapes her culture before she gets married off to a 40 year old pervert at the age of 12.
Before you say I am ignorant and know nothing of other cultures I was born from an arranged marriage my mother was 15 died in childbirth and my 57 year old father raped me when I was four. I am forever grateful to the strangers that took me in and sent me to live in Australia with their relitives.
And to those above how can you call someone ignorant when you don’t know them? You are not the only person with a valued opinion. Freedom of speech should come without the critisim.
