Does that mean the next time some Joe Shmoe dies and I don’t give a damn, I’m acting supsicious and guilty?

If I turn cartwheels through the graveyard at his funeral, does that mean I killed him? If I enjoy myself eating shrimp cocktails at the funeral dinner, does that mean I killed him? Suppose I was Joe Shmoe’s friend and I enjoyed myself eating shrimp cocktails at his funeral dinner?

In short, your PERSONALITY cannot prove that you murdered someone. HARD EVIDENCE does.

I don’t know why I even have to explain this to people. It is self-evident and seems like logic a ten-year-old should be able to see.

As for reading some NY Times blog post about a supposed “innocent abroad” written in June 2009, you might want to pay enough attention to notice that this post was written in November 2007… idiot!

I am from the US, and I agree with you -I travel 80% of the time overseas-Italy, Turkey, Spain, France, UK, etc-and I always travel alone and watch people traveling from all over the world-People from the US-they are the loudest, and they act like they do not care. I am embarassed sometimes. I apologize to you, although please know, we are not all like this.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

“This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars, and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When the France was in danger of collapsing it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I’d like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don’t they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon – not once, but several times – and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at.

Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don’t think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I’m one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those.”

Laura Mezzetti, an Italian woman who shared an apartment with victim Meredith Kercher and defendant Amanda Knox, told the court she saw the scratch on Nov. 2, 2007, at the police station where they were waiting to be questioned.

Kercher’s body had been found earlier that day in their apartment in Perugia.

“Amanda had a wound to her neck and I noticed it because it was known that Meredith had been killed by a wound to her neck,” said Mezzetti. “She had a scratch to her neck.”

“I was afraid that Amanda, too, might have been wounded, I was worried and I looked at it really intensely,” Mezzetti said.

Mezzetti said she observed Knox’s scratch from a few yards (meters) away. She described the wound as “vertical, less than 1-centimeter (0.4 inches) thick.” She said it was red in color and gestured it was under her chin.

Mezzetti said she did not see any scratch when she saw Knox on Oct. 31, 2007, during breakfast at the apartment. She said she did not see Knox until two days later at the police station.

Mezzetti said the scratch was different from a love bite or hickey, as those would be “purple and more round.”

Asked why she had failed to mention it when she had spoken to police previously, Mezzetti said she thought everybody else would have noticed it.

Prosecutors allege Kercher was the reluctant object of a sex game that ended violently on Nov. 1. She was stabbed in the neck.

Knox, a 21-year old from Seattle, and Raffaele Sollecito, a 24-year-old Italian who was her boyfriend at the time, are being tried on charges of murder and sexual violence. They deny wrongdoing.

Another man, Ivory Coast national Rudy Hermann Guede, was convicted last year on the same charges and sentenced to 30 years in prison. Guede, who had also denied wrongdoing, had requested and received a fast-track trial.

Sounding confident and speaking fluent Italian, Knox charged with murdering her British roommate told a court Friday she was innocent and was sure the truth would come out.
