Aqua Dots Recall – A shipment of Aqua Dots in Australia were found to be laced with the date rape drug GHB prompting an international recall of Aquadots.
The popular Aqua Dots recall caught consumers and retailers by surprise because this time it wasn’t lead paint on Chinese-made toys, it was a powerful date rape drug on something that kids might put in their mouths.
Two children in the U.S. and three in Australia were hospitalized after swallowing the beads. Lab tests revealed that a chemical coating on the Aqua Dots turns into the date rape drug when ingested.
In the US, Aqua Dots are a highly popular holiday toy distributed by Toronto-based Spin Master Toys. The same toy is called Bindeez in Australia, where they were named toy of the year earlier this year.
Aqua Dots beads are made in the same Chinese factories as the Bindeez product and both brands are sold by an Australian company, Moose Enterprises.
