It could have been cancelled after the first episode.

It's a hunk of crap.

They should put a "Real" show on about the CIA- running drugs, breaking the laws, and doing whatever they please.

Maybe then we could round 'em up and reign them in.

Ok....So just think like the person who made the decision to post-pone/cancel until January 2009.
-He's pissed that the moneymaking, popular show was cancelled, he's mad at the writers. What does he do? He says screw you writers, I'll cancel the show for this year and let you get some more heat from the public. I'll teach you to go on strike and mess with me. I get paid the same salary no matter what.

I think the chief schedule dude was quoted as saying they were doing what they feel the public wants. I wonder who “they” are and how they arrived at this "feeling". I don't remember seeing a poll, or a survey, all things they could have been doing while the strike was on, so here we have yet another network executive telling us how we feel. As I lash out in powerless frustration, unable to change the situation I feel as if FOX never gave the public an opportunity to voice their opinions. I guess we get what we get.

Seriously, Mr. Beckman, do you really expect me to believe that you think the public would rather wait another 10 months to see their favorite TV series, than having it run into the summer season, or be broadcast 2 shows per week to catch up to current schedule or some other compromise? It really is too bad I cannot return the favor of imposing my will upon you.

I think it's just terrible, I would plan my whole week around 24. I would plan my winter months just waiting for the next season to return. I have watched so many reruns of the show I feel like I'm part of the show. Now to find out that I have to wait another whole year before a new season begins well that's just a disgrace. I hope this never ever happens again. It's the fans that get the bad end of the deal.

24 Season 7 Update

Because only eight episodes of 24 were shot before the writers strike halted production, it looks like 24 won't be back until January, 2009.

Even if all the actors were available, shooting could not begin for at least two months from when the writers strike ends.

Assuming today's vote is a yes and the strike ends, the filming could not be completed before June.

No way is Fox going to run one of their biggest revenue producing shows as a summer replacement.

They also won't air 24 in the fall of 2008 either because they need it on Monday nights starting in January 2009.

The actors and crew can't crank out two seasons worth of shows back to back, so the bottom line is 24 is a no show in 2008.

it very sad to get to know what's up behind responses like"season 7 and beyond are not in" any time you go asking about 24 in all the film markets in my country Ghana. For some of us, we have adopted 24 as brain teasers to get us mentally alert and to sharpen our decision making abilities in life. Those writers i think are missing the mark with their strike action, if they only knew the good impact their handiwork is making as far as Africa. Such an impact is priceless i want to tell them and its reward is unfathomable. Please writers wake up and see well.

Well the writers should feel lucky to be doing something they love to do in the first place. How many of us in this world really love our jobs? And to be working in Hollywood on TV shows? How incredible is that!! I'd give anything to have a job like that! I mean it's like this great gig and they are complaining. Here we have our troops-- some of them practically kids-- that put their lives on the line every day. They should be ashamed of themselves. It's not that we're missing the shows, they are missing the point.

I can't believe this. I'm a diehard 24 fan and have been anxiously awaiting the big opening season show. I was wondering though if Jack had finished his jail time for DUI in time to film the episodes. Now, I guess that's irrelevant. I guess my whole Monday night "24" girls' group will have to wait until the writers get what they want before we can start meeting again. Like others have mentioned....I refuse to replace the time with some other show. It simply can't compare with JACK!

This is by far worst than the New York Jets 2007 season
Strikers "these unions" just don't know when enough is enough already! How much more money, royalties do you want? The people(the ones who pay cable companies, buy plasma TV, rush home from a hard days work just to see,a great series 24)the viewers, should go on strike! 24 is by far the best TV show I had ever seen...I waited months just to prepare for a fresh new season 7 of 24. I will boycott watching "The Terminator series" and i will tell all my friends because its just not the same without my Monday fix of 24?
I hope they make " 24the movie" with hard core non-stop action, and a killer story. I suggest running the eight or so episodes of 24 on a different day. And show the remaining episodes later this year. At least, give us something! If terminator series takes our 24 spot. It would be heart felt across the world-its legion of fans might turn face? I for one will remain a true 24 fan. I will wait it out. But, I will not watch any show in its place, time slot on FOX 5.
Thank you for given me a chance to voice my opinion

This does stink. I just wish this would come to a conclusion soon, but it doesn't look like it will. I'm glad they're not showing the first eight episodes though, because another article said episode 8 is a cliffhanger, so I'm glad.

So sad that at a time when we need Jack Bauer most, when only he would have the conviction required to torture those greedy writers until they divulge their plot secrets, it is the writers' very silence that shackles him. Oh cruel world.

I hate the writers guild, bunch of greedy jerks. I think they should all be fired, and some new blood should be brought in.

And here's how the Associated Press reported Fox's schedule change:

NEW YORK (AP) — The writers strike has struck down the Fox thriller "24."

"24" is absent from the network's revised, strike-affected schedule for midseason. In its announcement, Fox explained the "Day 7" season for the series would be indefinitely postponed to ensure an uninterrupted run.

Like most series written by members of the Writers Guild of America, "24" is falling prey to a shortfall of scripts. But the heavily sequential, real-time "24" is dependent on a full-season run of 24 episodes.

Fox's revised schedule also calls for "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" to have a two-night premiere Jan. 13-14. The new drama, a reinvention of the "Terminator" film franchise, stars Lena Headey.

Fox stressed that its revised schedule, announced Wednesday, was subject to further change, if strike developments warrant. WGA writers went on strike Monday, with no end in sight to their dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

The announcement by Fox was likely intended, in part, to make clear that it has fresh programming — in the form of new series — on deck, despite forecasts of rerun-beset lineups looming as the season wears on.

That was unlikely to console "24" fans awaiting the next 24-hour marathon of crises for put-upon hero Jack Bauer.

Here's the latest news on 24 from Fox:

Fox scheduling chief Preston Beckman tells trade paper 'Daily Variety':

"The viewers have told us that this is a show that needs to be digested with minimal, if any, interruptions."

'24's new season was scheduled to debut in January next year. It now looks likely that the show won't hit TV sets until the spring.

It will be replaced by 'Terminator' TV spin-off 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles', which was set to air later next year.

The source says "postponed" not canceled. Good exaggeration.

I'd say the BBC knows what they're talking about.

Not likely they're going to misquote Fox's scheduling chief...

If the writers strike is short, they could film more episodes, but only if everyone's schedules are in sync and they could meet the weekly airtimes.

A long strike means curtains for sure...

I think the bbc got the story wrong. nowhere in the US does it say it is cancelled, and the quote they used from the PR guy sounds like he's referring to it being postponed. because they don't like to have gaps between new episodes. word is they are just waiting to show what they have done until the whole season is complete. which is not the same at all as being cancelled. google other sources.

I am absolutely speechless.
Maybe they could pay John Cassar to come back. He has good ideas. Or....or....
I don't know.
But I need 24.
Stupid writers strike.
Hope it comes back eventually...
