I think I read that the only way it can be transferd from plants to humans is through the plant's contact with an open wound

between solar flares, planet x entering the solar system, extreme weather and natural disasters. a zombie apocalypse would be something i would welcome. cuz its a manageable situation. weather we do or do not live in the end of days. 2 thigns are for certain.

the Christians fucked us all with the dark ages. burning and losing all the tech and history they didnt like. so lets give them a hand.

and 2 this world is fucked up. and all human life is to the earth is a parasite. you are all insects. like crab lice.

bring on the apocalypse. bring on the zombie crusades

Honestly everything about this virus is a lie. There is no virus that turns you into a zombie. However, I am one to keep an open mind. Maybe there is such a virus, maybe a zombie apocalypse will happen in the future (NO, NOT 2012). In this world anything is possible. I'll be honest, I will be terrified when the dead rise from the grave (As the bible depicts. A book that sooooo many people claim is true) but it will add some serious excitment to our world.

First and foremost, I have to say that spelling and punctuation along this string is horrible.

Secondly, there are actually several strains of something called Solanum viruses that infect the Solanum genus of plants--whose relatives include the tomato and potato plants that we eat. So, to clarify that point, I'm not saying that some virus that makes zombies does or doesn't really exist, but it's not actually the Solanum virus that does it. Real Solanum viruses actually cause leaf curling, not zombies.

Lastly, as I scientist, I can't rule out anything until I actually find proof that it doesn't exist, so I'm not going to absolutely say that I don't believe in zombies. I do have to say that a virus is far less likely to be the culprit than a manufactured drug. Viruses simply don't work that way. Man-made drugs have far more potential to create something similar, but it would still likely require the body to work in largely the same way it does currently; therefore, a zombie would be far easier to kill than the movies would have you believe. I'll always be prepared for whatever may come, but I just wouldn't worry quite so much.

wel, this virus could be real, but even if it is, why would a virus that old crawl its way out of the grimy depths of time?? there needs to be more facts on the subject. but please, theres a better chance of a zombie appocalyse happening from the zombie powder that african necromancers use than this virus all of the sudden popping up in ..... oklahoma..... im mean im just spitballing here, but it dosent sound that convincing. and if im wrong every one who is against what i think can personally punch me as hard as possible in the face..... thank you and youve just been served......... ok that was stupid, but you get the point.

Some say that microbes ( be it bacteria a parasite or some other scientific name for really little organisms) can and do live in the brain of most people. They cause little or no harm and are beleived to wait untill death to eat the fatty "sheaths" of the nerves that make up our brain. Be they dormant or active while people are alive I dont know. Hell I dont think they know sence whoed be willing to have their brain dicected while they are alive. Anyway point is they found that these "little guys" release chemicals into the brain while they feast/grow. However this is on a dead brain but they found that the brain cells werent damaged by it. This is probably do to the fact that they had to keep eating in the same area they deficate so their waste would lower how much "food" they can consume. But sence the brain is dead they have no idea what these released chemicals will do to the living brain. However this is all i heard or can remember on this. I cant remember where i heard it from. Might help if i havent smoked so much, but whatever. I can however speculate more on this. Every human should know that chemicals can alter brain activity and even form dependency(such as tobacco cocaine coffe huffing ect.). And have desently educated people should know that electrical signals and CHEMICALS is how our brain functions NORMALY. Think about it. What are hoarmones? What is adrenalin? What is endorfins( yeah im sure i didnt spell some of them right)? They are all chemicals. Anyway to get to the point, as you should be able to speculate further and if you cant go back to school, perhaps it is possible that these organisms in our brain can influence thought, emotion and actions at either their whims or as an unintened though seemingly harmless result of them being there. Now with that said regardless of whether or not what i heard is true there is still the fact that chemicals and electic signals are how the brain works. If a "virus" (more likely a parasite considering their nature) can figure out ways to control the brain and infect others the resulting "outbreak" would be zombie-like sence bitting would be a good method of transference. Provided it doesnt encloude air/waterborne transmition. But it should be curable. I mean we havent cured AIDS or Ifluenza but this should warrent enough attention. I mean the last thing you wanna do is kill family or friends that are infected then come to find out there is a cure or a possibilty of one just no one got off their rears to do anything about it. Is it possible, yes. Probable, no. Likeiness of this happening is like me movin to all the states with a lottary and winning first time go. Does that mean i dont have a contingence plan ,no i have one but it dont go nearly as far as buying spare wood to fortify my aptment. The extent of my planning falls under a more reallistic contingency plan which is what to do with a human unamred assailent. And thats grab something hard and hit em in the head. Hell all my plans to deffend myself include havin the upper hand( he got a knife i got a gun) if possible. Now fights that i get into with people i meet are another story. You talk/argue it leads to a fight then duke it out no need to try a kill someone over nothin. An assailent is someone that plans bodilyharm or worse so hittin them in the head is a good plan sence they wont always die and they deserve it anyway cause im not gonna sit idlely by while this nut case tries to hurt me and im sorry to the dumb family members that want "justice" for a family member that got killed tryin to hurt someone. WAIT, NO IM NOT!! You shouldve raised them better then that instead of making a human parasite!

P.S.
That picture of an arm clawing out the grave is fake as hell. You can buy faek limps like that to hang out of the trunk of your car and what not.

May I ask a couple of questions? First, why is it a requirement in most if not all states that a humans coffin be buried in a vault underground, if not to protect us from something. Also, why is it a requirement in most states that all blood be drained and replace with embalming fluid instead of just burying us as we were? Third, if there is no truth to the statements and therories here, why is it a proven fact thatunearthed bodies have shown signs of growth, such as finger and toe nails, hair, and other parts of the anatomy that should be dorment if not dead in the death of the body. Fourth, Isn't there a little bit of truth in every work of fiction, some under lying fact to the therory. Hope that I'm not way off base by asking these question, but I'd like to know the fact and opinions of others

i can believe it. sure, call me naive but personally i think all you who dismiss the idea completely are small-minded. strange stuff happens all the time. the fact that you have convinced yourself zombies don't exist a long time ago for your own sake doesn't make this source any less credible. And for the picture that look fake, yes, they are fake. Why would they take a picture of the actual guys hand and how could they time the zombification of the archaeologist so that they could capture it? Would that be at all respectful to the archaeologist family? I'm not saying you have to believe it, what I'm saying is that you have to realize there is a possiblity. Come on people, expand your thinking.

the human body, nor mind can be altered in such a way of a "virus". Granted it may make you feel out of sorts, but most of the scientists and medical pros that i work with all agree, radiation is the only thing that would be able to make this happen. But it is not the only thing involved. It is a lot like cancer, you need to have it in you to be triggered. It WOULD be air born for only the first 24-30 hours (depending on the wind). But after that, then yes, the bites, scratches (only if fluids can be swapped) and blah blah..Also.. the brain will not be the only way to kill a "zombie".. dont put down the human heart! the heart pumps the blood which keeps the impulses in the brain active... if there is no blood, the brain cannot operate.. NO exception.

Enjoy, and do not seriously expect any zombies coming out anytime soon, the government has it fairly locked down out in the state of Ohio... if it goes down.. well.. i suppose the few of us left will have some fun :)

Interesting subject. I would have to agree with the few people who said that while currently not probable, it would be silly to rule it out. Viruses mutate and change all the time. Look at the flu virus. It has, over the years, adapted because of flu anti-viruses, and made itself harder to kill. I do not think that it is outside of the realm of possibility that there could be a virus or other infectious entity that could cause something like the "Rage" virus from the movie 28 Days Later. While it is a little hard to swallow the idea of a reanimated corpse that is hell-bent on eating the flesh and brains of the living, I dont think that it is completely inconceivable that a human host could be infected by something that caused a sort of insanity or violent tendencies. I dont know, I guess time will tell.

You guys this all makes since to me.

Humans are a species like any other. The only difference is that we are highly advanced. An apex predator, as some could say. As an example: Mountain lions, another predator, are preyed on by each other (for humans: criminals); other predators (humans: wild animals); and disease, which is the missing piece of the puzzle for humankind. Solanum, uncurable and deadly, could be that missing piece of the population control puzzle.

It could very well be real. I believe in it 100%, and I just really don't care if you doubters think I'm nuts. I've heard it to the point where you can all just kiss my ass. Just don't go shambling to me as an undead monster, I will blow your brains out.

If this is true, think of the good implications. A disaster like this will finally bring all humans together against a common enemy. If it isn't, it still stands, we all know we would need each other in order to survive. This promotes trust for your fellow human, in the end, we know we must meet our fate together. Unity is the real lesson. Regard me, disregard me, its your choice.

This is not a dease it is a virus and it causes deformation in the brain ,witch causes all human relation to change barbaric, unfamilaiir, and there is no real cure besides amputation at the injection sight ,all forms of human behavior is erealivent.no one has seen a sign of this virus in a while, since acient times ,some believe as the mians predicted would be the end of the world in 2012,more comminly know as a zombie attack

I was actually just thinking about the carpenter ants myself and how that may be an alternative to the "sentient" virus that someone had mentioned. Currently it is unlikely there is a virus that makes people into the stereotypical movie zombies with the moaning and what not and if you believe those are the zombies we will see if a solanum type virus does occur you are gravely mistaken. in all likelihood the "virus" would be created in a lab perhaps on accident or perhaps by someone who is bent on causing mass destruction of human life and would also probably not be a virus at all but rather perhaps something along the lines of a fungus, bacteria, parasite, or even nanotechnology (and it is quite possible we will have plausible access to nanotechnology within the next 20 years) Other than that the closest thing we have to "zombies" are the people who are drugged and work in a trance-like state with all the capabilities of a normal human being save for an ability to have independent thought (hence why they can do little more than follow orders) all I can say is if worse comes to worse and a zombie outbreak does occur your better of completely destroying the body as a head shot to a "fungal zombie" wouldn't do much.

I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to dismiss all of this as nonsense. Over the summer I discovered the following news article, and if this doesn't sound like infection and reanimation then I don't know what does.

In a bizarre parasitic death sentence, a fungus turns carpenter ants into the walking dead and gets them to die in a spot that's perfect for the fungus to grow and reproduce.

Scientists have no clue how the fungus takes control of the brains of ants so effectively. But a new study in the September issue of the American Naturalist reveals an incredible set of strategies that ensue.

The carpenter ants nest high in the canopy of a forest in Thailand, and they trek to the forest floor to forage. The fungus, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, prefers to end up on the undersides leaves sprouting from the northwest side of plants that grow on the forest floor, the new study showed. That's where temperature, humidity and sunlight are ideal for the fungus to grow and reproduce and infect more ants.

Once infected by the fungus, an ant is compelled to climb down from the canopy to the low leaves, where it clamps down with its mandibles just before it dies.

"The fungus accurately manipulates the infected ants into dying where the parasite prefers to be, by making the ants travel a long way during the last hours of their lives," said study leader David P. Hughes of Harvard University.

After the ant dies, the fungus continues to grow inside it. By dissecting victims, Hughes and colleagues found that the parasite converts the ant's innards into sugars that help the fungus grow. But it leaves the muscles controlling the mandibles intact to make sure the ant keeps its death grip on the leaf.

The fungus also preserves the ant's outer shell, growing into cracks and crevices to reinforce weak spots, thereby fashioning a protective coating that keeps microbes and other fungi out.

"The fungus has evolved a suite of novel strategies to retain possession of its precious resource," Hughes said.

After a week or two, spores from the fungus fall to the forest floor, where other ants can be infected.

Making nests in the forest canopy might be an evolved ant strategy to avoid infection, Hughes figures. The ants also seem to avoid foraging under infected areas. This too might be an adaptive strategy to avoid infection, but more study is needed to confirm it, he said.

How the fungus controls ant behavior remains unknown. "That is another research area we are actively pursuing right now," Hughes said.

First off many of you are right n wrong n goffen off.

Seconed the canadian talked n no one responded to his posible clame. His story interested me but he should have used a camera or somthing.

Third it might not be a Virus but it could be a parasite. Ther is a virus or parasite cant remember but it infects an ant or snale also cant remember but then it take controle of the primitive brain and forces it to go to the top of grass then get eaten by a rabit then the rabits droppings are eaten by sed animals and the proses starts over.

4th who care if its real or not, be ready for the unknown and dont dismiss zombies becouse of the Z.S.G. and anoying kid you dont know the US gov at all.

Also what if the govs are some of you? haha.

last but not least aim for the head.

It's called FICTION people. Zombies are FICTION. And you all are retarded, seriously.
