What are you talking about? Forgiveness has to be earned. Don't be naive and ignorant! Lori Drew has never asked for it.

Lori Drew it the worst person I have encountered besides Osama bin Laden and Charles Manson. Yes, they caused a lot of death and destruction, especially Bin Laden, in the form of 9/11. I bet Lori Drew is the kind of person who is a church going type and calls herself a Christian.

"jori" Drew, you must be hurt because of all the "hate" messages people send you every single day. my suggestion is to ask God (Lord Jesus) for forgiveness and He will take it from there. go to church if you need to get to know Jesus, our Lord and Savior. if people look at you funny, remember, they probabaly did things way worse than you could ever commit in your lifetime.
This is just a suggestion...

I dont understand you guys. None of you. the majority in this chatting area, that I have observed, are christians. if you truly are christans, then you must, by God's command, FORGIVE people no matter what they do.
that means forgiving Drew's actions.

Also, cyber-bullying? Give me a fucking BREAK (again)! Try being bullied in real life. I seen it plenty of times and even in the past was a punk myself, but only the part about liking to fight. But that was back in fucking 4th or 5th grade. I grew up, grew a pair and realized that it was wrong. Cyber-Bullying. phew. What will they think of next, Cyber sex?

Fuck Megan Meier's parents too. I mean, yeah their daughter is fucking retarded and killed herself but to have a fucking gang of strangers now repeat the same mistakes of harassment is FUCKED UP. People should've just lent support but not take it as far as to torment their opposition. Where's the justice in that. What? An eye for an Eye? Give me a break. I wonder if Megan is turning in her grave over her parents actions, and those of the moronic intruders who like to TORMENT. I'm not condoning what the Drew's did (which is FUCKED UP) but the people who repeat the same mistakes are TOTAL COCKS! So fuck The "Meier" family, fuck the "Drew" family, and fuck the TOTAL COCKS!

The fact that Lori Drew has been prosecuted leaves me absolutely stunned, and restores my faith in this system.

She deserved a day in court, no matter the verdict; a decent prosecuting attorney saw to that fact.

Thank you Los Angeles Federal Attorneys.

I was wrong in my lack of trust that the right thing would would happen in this case, and I'm very glad I was.

Boy, oh, boy, where do I begin?

This is to all the people who want to blame Tina for her daughter's suicide. Isn't this a little harsh? No, not a little, this is ridiculous & very laughable. You can blame a lot of people for what happened and the truth is that there may be multiple places where the blame lies. But saying the mother herself is responsible for the death by her actions is just cruel.

What really upsets me about your statements the most is the inference that the mother caused the suicide of her own child. Give me a break! Have you never told your child that they messed up? Parents are criticized for NOT keeping track of their kids online. This mother was upset that the daughter broke the internet rules as well as her telling Megan to log off many times before when she received those hateful comments from Lori. She was being a responsible parent & was doing her job like every parent should. I guess the most responsible thing to do if you have kids is throw out the computer.

You can blame the mom for not being "supportive" all you want but I challenge anyone with children to tell me how they've been perfectly supportive with every issue that's ever bothered their child. If you tell me you've never said "buck up!" when your child has been hurt or never said "I told you so!" in some situation, then you're lying. People ALL say things like this from time to time. Parents aren't perfect. So don't dare to blame the mother just because hindsight shows she MIGHT have been able to prevent what happened by being psychic, not to mention perfect and unable to be frustrated or emotional herself. The mother has enough blame from herself, I'm sure, saying the exact same thing. And that's too bad, because it WASN'T her fault.

The mother clearly said and showed that she WAS involved with what was going on. She had read the E-mails with her daughter and WAS discussing them. That's more than most parents even know in these situations. Sadly most only discover what was even going on AFTER their child has taken some regrettable action. So she did right. She simply did not have any clue that her daughter was so disturbed that she was possible of taking things to the extreme that she did. So in my book, the mother did better than 99% of the parents in these situations that I've read or heard about before because at least she communicated with her daughter and knew what was going on. Again, we can't be perfect, and we can't predict the future, especially when dealing with someone who evidently has mental issues we are not aware of or do not know the degree of.

This kind of thing has happened throughout history with teenagers, back before Romeo and Juliet. The message is clear though. Parents simply have to do the best they can. Know what their children are doing and stay involved and communicative with them. That's all you can do. Also, don't be hesitant to pull the plug on communications like a computer or even a cell phone if things are getting out of control. Yes, the child probably won't appreciate that either, but if you feel things are out of control enough to warrant it, wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?

Bottom line, STOP attacking the parents for not being perfect and not knowing exactly what would happen. It's not fair and it makes you look like fools as well. What happened is tragic enough without heaping extra blame in places where it doesn't belong. In the end, the buck stops with each individual. No matter what, we are all responsible for our OWN actions. People have no idea what it's like to lose a child due to the intense bullying that she had suffered, among what other incidents that children suffer due to others. And it certainly doesn't come from their parents. Shame on those of you that are defending Lori's actions.

While it's also true that Lori didn't cause Megan to commit suicide either, She, Ashley Grills, & her daughter, Sarah, KNEW what kind of problems that Megan had mentially, & decided to act out on it, & had shown absolutely no remorse for what they did. THAT'S why they have been receiving all the public humilation that they're getting, & rightly so. Plus don't say that Lori isn't a drama queen, because if she wasn't, then she would have just marched her butt onto her neighbor's doorstep, & just simply asked her neighbor if Megan was bullying Sarah. Now how hard is that? It's not. This whole tragedy could have all been avoided if Lori were to simply do that of what I said. I hope you don't have any kids. And I certainly don't blame Tina for going after her constantly.

Wake the hell up, people.

This kind of thing has happened throughout history with teenagers, back before Romeo and Juliet. The message is clear though. Parents simply have to do the best they can. Know what their children are doing and stay involved and communicative with them. That’s all you can do. Also, don’t be hesitant to pull the plug on communications like a computer or even a cell phone if things are getting out of control. Yes, the child probably won’t appreciate that either, but if you feel things are out of control enough to warrant it, wouldn’t you rather be safe than sorry?

Bottom line, STOP attacking the parents for not being perfect and not knowing exactly what would happen. It’s not fair and it makes you look like fools as well. What happened is tragic enough without heaping extra blame in places where it doesn’t belong. In the end, the buck stops with each individual. No matter what, we are all responsible for our OWN actions. People have no idea what it’s like to lose a child due to the intense bullying that she had suffered, among what other incidents that children suffer due to others. And it certainly doesn’t come from their parents. Shame on those of you that are defending Lori’s actions.

While it’s also true that Lori didn’t cause Megan to commit suicide either, She, Ashley Grills, & her daughter, Sarah, KNEW what kind of problems that Megan had mentially, & decided to act out on it, & had shown absolutely no remorse for what they did. THAT’S why they have been receiving all the public humilation that they’re getting, & rightly so. Plus don’t say that Lori isn’t a drama queen, because if she wasn’t, then she would have just marched her butt onto her neighbor’s doorstep, & just simply asked her neighbor if Megan was bullying Sarah. Now how hard is that? It’s not. This whole tragedy could have all been avoided if Lori were to simply do that of what I said. I hope you don’t have any kids. And I certainly don’t blame Tina for going after her constantly.

Wake the hell up, people.

Hi, my name is Harrison and i'm being like bullied alot when i'm at school or on MSN, online, and at some other websites. I know that it is hard to get messages like "The world is better without you!" I got similair messages and i'm only 12. I ignored these messages alot, but it kept on going, I coudn't do anything, but then the next day at school everyone was nice to me.

If I was friends with her I think I could of helped her to not commit suicide. I think Megan was nice and not mean, like in the messages. I actually wish that she still lived...

I am angry at the same time. If I lived in the neighboorhood, I would fucked that house of them big time, and don't care the freaking jail-time!

I am probably in the wrong blog for my take on this case but what the heck. It seems so many of you have not read the testimony in this case. Ashley (the immunity granted employee of Drew) testified that SHE was the one who created "Josh", SHE was the one who wrote most of the messages to Megan, SHE was the one who wrote the final note ("world a better place without...") and admits Drew was not home at the time the last note was sent. As to Tina having "monitored" her child's activity on MySpace that is a laughable defense of her lack of parenting. She stated at one point she encouraged Megan in her relationship with a phoney Josh. What if that was a 50 yr. old male pedophile? Kidnap, rape, murder anyone? 98% of the blame goes to Tina. Sorry folks. Part Two - three misdemeanors probably get dismissed, conspiracy probably does not get retried, and even if it all stands on appeal she will do NO TIME. First offense will not gather jail time and $100K fine. Also sorry.

I completely agree that although Lori Drew is a horrible person for doing this, she is innocent. Look people, lying is wrong, but the internet isn't real life, if you treat it like real life people will take advantage of you and people need to know this. At the same time, the Internets anonymity is one of it's greatest attractions. It's a place where no one knows your race or religion or socio-economic status, but it's also a place where everything should be taken with a grain of salt. Everytime I fill something out on the internet (besides making a purchase), I lie. The fact is you don't know who is taking that information and what it is being used for. Sure this is a horrible thing to happen to a girl with a promising future, but people need to learn to question things more rather than taking everything at face value. It would've been nicer if it didn't take a young girl to die for people to realize this, but it's good if something positive can come out of this tragedy.

Also, I'm going to post something next that says the girl needed to die because she "was a bitch." Hopefully if you've read this you'll be able to objectively look at the rash of reactions to what just demonstrates my point mentioned above of people needing being more careful of what they believe.

I can’t believe that these people have the nerve to say that she didn’t commit any crimes whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I can’t believe that she got away with it the first time! There needs to be justice, one way or another. But if there is not justice for Megan, then this society is corrupt. But I do hope that she gets publicly humilated like before, & then having to wind up dealing with God for what she did when her time comes to stand face to face with him. She deserves no sympathy.

LOS ANGELES – The daughter of a woman accused of orchestrating a cruel Internet hoax against a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide took the witness stand Friday to defend her mother.

Sarah Drew, 16, said her mother, Lori Drew, initially thought it was a good idea to create a fictitious boy on a MySpace account to find out if Megan Meier was spreading rumors about Sarah.

But Sarah said her mother told a business assistant to shut down the MySpace account two weeks after it was created — well before the final message was sent saying the world would be better off if Megan was dead.

Megan, who had been treated for attention deficit disorder and depression, hanged herself in October 2006 after receiving the message.

Lori Drew has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and accessing computers without authorization. If convicted of all counts, Drew faces up to 20 years in prison.

Sarah's testimony capped a week of emotional and sometimes touchy proceedings in what is believed to be the nation's first cyber-bullying trial.

Sarah broke down under cross-examination by U.S. Attorney Thomas O'Brien as she described how Megan had confided in her about her suicidal thoughts, but Sarah didn't tell anyone.

The trial also took another twist when U.S. District Judge George Wu said he will rule Monday on a defense motion calling for the dismissal of charges against the 49-year-old Drew.

Prosecutors say Drew, her business assistant Ashley Grills and Sarah created the MySpace alias of a teen boy called "Josh Evans" in September 2006 to befriend Megan.

Sarah told jurors her mother thought inventing "Josh" was a good idea but changed her mind two weeks later and told Grills to shut it down. Sarah also said she tried to stop Grills from sending the final message.

"I was like, Ashley, no, don't send it," Sarah said. "She said she sent it and laughed about it."

Sarah testified she never saw her mother use the MySpace account. Her statement contradicted testimony by Grills that she had seen Drew type at least one message and court documents alleging Drew told authorities she typed, read and monitored the chat between "Josh" and Megan.

Sarah said it was her father, not her mother, who told her and Grills to delete the MySpace account after they learned Megan had hanged herself. Grills testified Thursday it was both Sarah's parents who made the request.

On cross-examination by the prosecution, Sarah said she often forgave Megan, who she considered her best friend, for saying mean things about her. She also denied having a role in her friend's death.

Sarah said Megan confided in her on two occasions that she wanted to kill herself.

"She was like, I don't know if I could live anymore," she said of one instance. "I told her not to do it."

Sarah cried on the witness stand and nodded when O'Brien questioned her about why she didn't tell any adults about the suicide conversations.

Defense attorney Dean Steward stood up and lashed out at the region's top federal prosecutor for badgering the teenage girl.

"Come on, 'yes or no,' not a head nod. Be a professional!" Steward bellowed. Drew shot icy stares at O'Brien but showed no other reaction.

Sarah was visibly shaken as she left the courtroom and wept as she passed Megan's parents Ron and Tina Meier. Outside court, Drew tried to calm her daughter.

Steward said his client would not testify at the trial.

Judge Wu said he intends to review testimony and issue a ruling on the dismissal motion by the defense claiming Drew cannot be held responsible for violating the service rules of the MySpace social networking site because she never read them.

While making the dismissal motion, Steward argued that neither Drew nor Sarah or Grills had read the rules.

"The best view of the government's evidence is ambiguous at best," Steward said.

That prompted Wu to question Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Krause about the charges in the ongoing trial.

"How would they know if they didn't read the terms of service?" Wu asked.

Krause said Grills had testified that she knew they could get in trouble for the hoax, and that a computer forensics analysis showed a MySpace account had been deleted from Drew's computer after the suicide of Megan.

“How would they know if they didn’t read the terms of service?” Wu asked.

Krause said Grills had testified that she knew they could get in trouble for the hoax, and that a computer forensics analysis showed a MySpace account had been deleted from Drew’s computer after the suicide of Megan.

Lori Drew - Trial Update

A Missouri woman knew her 13-year-old neighbor was depressed and suicidal when she sent cruel Internet messages to the teenager, her former assistant testified. The girl killed herself after being told the world would be better off without her.

Ashley Grills, 20, told jurors Thursday she helped Lori Drew set up a fake MySpace profile of a 16-year-old boy to lure Megan Meier into an online relationship. Testifying for the prosecution under a grant of immunity, Grills also said she sent the last message from the fictitious "Josh Evans" to Megan in October 2006 on the day the girl hanged herself.

When she learned of Megan's death, Grills said Drew told her, "`We could have pushed her overboard because she was suicidal and depressed.'"

Testimony was to resume Friday in the case against Drew, who has pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing computers without authorization. Each count carries a potential sentence of five years in prison.

Prosecutors say Drew, 49, her then-13-year-old daughter, Sarah, and Grills created the MySpace alias in September 2006 to befriend Megan to find out if she was spreading rumors about Sarah.

The case is believed to be the nation's first cyberbullying trial. Its results could set a legal precedent for dealing with the issue of online harassment.

Defense attorney Dean Steward told jurors that Drew did not violate the Computer Use and Fraud Act — used in the past to address computer hacking — and reminded them that she was not facing charges dealing with the suicide. Steward has repeatedly asked U.S. District Judge George Wu to exclude testimony about Megan's suicide and twice sought a mistrial.

Grills, who helped Drew with her coupon magazine business, testified that she told Drew they might get in trouble for the scheme, but that Drew replied, "It was fine and people do it all the time."

Grills said Drew thought the MySpace account was a funny idea and was present about half of the time when Grills and Sarah sent messages to Megan.

Grills said she remembered at least one time when Drew sat down and typed messages on the computer. She also testified that Drew wanted to print the conversations between "Josh" and Megan, lure the teen to a mall and reveal who the fake boy really was.

To finally end the hoax, Grills said she devised a scenario in which "Josh" would move away so Megan would lose interest in him. When Megan persisted, the tactics changed.

"We decided to be mean to her so she would leave him alone," Grills said.

She testified that she sent the final message to Megan saying the world would be better off without her. Prosecutors did not ask if Drew was in the room when that message was sent, but Grills said she believed the message contributed to her death.

Grills said that a short time after finding out that Megan committed suicide, Drew and her husband ordered her to close the MySpace account.
