On Facebook the dog book app, or more properly, Dogbook, is getting a lot of buzz. It’s another great example of a fun app developed for social networking that’s gone white hot.

The app Where I’ve Been became hugely popular and was picked up for $3.3 million by TripAdvisor earlier this month. Now, dogbook is getting the same kind of attention.

Dogbook allows users to extend all of Facebook’s social interactions to their dogs. You create a fun profile, with photos displaying your dog’s best features, and seek out canine companionship. Your dogs can have their own friends (people included) and you can even seek out local dogs through the dogbook app for play dates at the park.

The dogbook app has rapidly gained a rabid following on Facebook with several enthusiast groups already formed. One cool one is “Dogbook, How Gay Is That?”

Created in a week by 21-year old Alexandre Roche, dogbook and it’s companion feline app catbook, allow pet lovers an easy way to socialize and interact with each other.  Pet owners adopt their pet’s persona as they comment each other’s pics and talk about favorite treats.

Enhancements planned for the two apps are video sharing and message boards. Who knows, maybe somebody creative will do a mashup of Where I’ve Been with Dogbook. Maybe they could call it, “Where I’ve Gone.”

For all you Facebookers, here’s where you can grab the Dogbook app.
