I work at an NBC station, and we always get 30-45 mins of run through and pre-production stuff before the start of the Today Show. I had watched Katie "unplugged" since 1998 before she left for CBS, and this is pretty much her all the time off camera... or at least off-air, she knows the camera is on. The swearing bit is NOT very common - it's kinda an industry deal that you just assume whatever you say COULD go over the air when a camera is on you. But it's not that odd either.

While quirky, she is always very friendly and the people around her seem to generally have fun with her. I don't really understand the comments about how hard she was to work with and what a bitch she was. I've seen her in very stressful situations where she has to - and rightfully should - demand things from the people in the studio, and she is still courtious with "please" and "thank you".

Her replacement, Maredeth, is very much the same - although even MORE raw! She also has a lot of fun on set, and even lets some of that carry over to on-air.

I think it's nice that they let their gaurd down a little like this... they are almost human, you know!

Gawd! Katie cusses up a storm about 3 minutes in...

She says "shit" about five times there:

"I'm always like Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit..."

"Oh shit I have seven seconds!"
