Prince Harry In Afghanistan – Pictures of Prince Harry serving in Afghanistan with the British Army Blues and Royals regiment against the Taliban in volatile Helmand province.

In this photo of Prince Harry in Afghanistan, he is patrolling the city of Garmisir near Forward Operating Base Delhi where the young prince’s regiment has been based for the last ten weeks.

Harry was bitterly disappointed at not being allowed to serve with his regiment when it deployed to Iraq, so he retrained from tank commander to battlefield air controller.

The Prince, who is third in line to the throne, has been in Afghanistan since December and remains in active deployment in the troubled country which has seen a resurgence of the Taliban during the last few months.

“His conduct on operations in Afghanistan has been exemplary,” said the head of the British army, Gen. Richard Dannatt. “He has been fully involved in operations and has run the same risks as everyone else in his battle group.”

In an interview, Harry said he was happy to be standing shoulder-to- shoulder with his mates. “It’s nice just to be here with all the guys and just mucking in as one of the lads.”

Army chiefs said publicity surrounding Prince Harry’s deployment could put him and his unit at risk, but the young man who is third in line for the British throne relishes being treated as just another soldier doing his duty.

Prince Harry Pulled From Afghanistan After News Leak
LONDON – Britain’s defense chief decided Friday to immediately pull Prince Harry out of Afghanistan after news of his deployment was leaked, citing concerns that media coverage could put him and his comrades at increased risk.
Air Chief Marshal Jock Stirrup, chief of the Defense Staff, said he decided to withdraw the prince after senior commanders assessed the risks, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Australian magazine broke Prince Harry story
Australians angrily condemned the decision of a weekly women’s magazine to break the news blackout on Prince Harry’s deployment to Afghanistan.
The story was published in Australian tabloid magazine New Idea last month but not followed up by other media.
In an article on its website dated January 7, the magazine – nicknamed in Australia ‘No Idea’ – reported that Harry had seen front line action in Afghanistan despite opposition from the British government and members of the Royal family.
New Idea said it could “exclusively reveal” that the “maverick prince” had already seen front-line action.
The story was then picked up by a German newspaper and, yesterday, the US-based Drudge Report website, triggering world wide interest.
