Brain Mouse – OCZ is now shipping a brain mouse, technically a Neural Impulse Actuator gaming controller, that speeds your gaming reflexes by using brain waves to control movement and weapons.

Priced at $300, the OCZ brain mouse is obviously not for everyone, but serious gamers can achieve a 60% reduction in response time because using brain waves to trigger game actions is much faster than using muscles.

The Neural Impulse Actuator from OCZ Technology converts your EEG waves, muscle movements, and eye movements into specific keystrokes which allows it to work with any software, not just games.

Using a brain mouse means experienced gamers wouldn’t need a keyboard at all and in many games, only requires minimal use of a regular mouse.

OCZ’s NIA uses a USB 2.0 interface and a metal headband with carbon “dry” interface sensors whose threshold levels you set with a calibration GUI for each input type – muscle movement, brain waves, and glandular levels.

For the muscle movement, the brain mouse tracks muscles in your forehead and around your eyes. Both Alpha and Beta brain waves are monitored and can be assigned multiple inputs. The last input is eye movement, which is very useful for directional movement.

The brain wave controller application uses Direct X and multithreading to minimize performance degradation, but you’ll still need a high performance, multi-core system with plenty of memory.
Down the road, there will undoubtedly be many improvements to brain-computer interface technology, driven by what online users want to experience. Hmmm, can interactive porn be far behind?
And that’s the latest news on the ultimate gaming accessory, the brain mouse.
