Omar Jabar – Wanted terrorist Omar Jabar was arrested by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank Wednesday, saying he is the Hamas commander who planned a 2002 suicide bombing that killed 30 people.

Omar Jabar was arrested in a village in the Tulkarem area of the Hamas-controlled West Bank where he was a regional leader of the Islamist group, the Israeli armed forces said in a statement.

Jabar has been sought by Israel since the March 27, 2002 suicide bombing at the Park Hotel in the resort town of Netanya, which killed 30 people and wounded 143 more.
The bombing took place during the Jewish Passover holiday, and two days later Israel launched a large-scale attack on the West Bank territory.

The Israelis eventually took control of major Palestinian areas from which it had withdrawn as part of the 1993 Oslo accords.
Since the 2002 bombing, Jabar is suspected of recruiting militants and potential suicide bombers for “secret terror cells,” the army added in it’s statement about the arrest of one of Israel’s most wanted terrorists.
Sources with Palestinian security forces said Omar Jabar, 50, was detained in the West Bank village of Bal’a along with his chief deputy Hani Barabra, 33.

More on Arrest of Omar Jabar
(AP) – The bombing came at a time of intense Israeli-Palestinian bloodshed, but was especially shocking because of the high death toll and because it targeted a religious celebration. Most of the victims were elderly.
Military officials said Jabar, who was high on Israel’s most-wanted list, was found by chance. They said they had gone to the West Bank town of Qalqiliya to arrest another wanted man and Jabar happened to be there.
