American Idol Predictions April 16: Predictions for who got voted off American Idol from the April 15 show performances last night - Find out which contestants are in the bottom three and which contestant is going home.

Best American Idol Performance on 4-15-08

David Cook blew everyone away with his version of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby”, giving it an edgy alt-rock vibe and totally transforming the song.

American Idol Predictions April 9 - Guys

In Danger: Jason Castro

Jason sang “I Don’t Want To Cry” and did a pretty good job with it. He’s a favorite of a lot of the college-age girls, but it’s getting to be crunch time on the guys side.

Jason has the musical chops, but he doesn’t have the overall fan base that either David Archuleta or David Cook have. Jason needs to be really, really careful about his song choices from here on out because one bad pick and he’s gone.

Best Performances This Week: David Cook, David Archuleta

David Archuleta started off the night with “When You Believe” and gave his usual earnest, dreamy-eyed version of an uplifting song. Trouble was David Cook hit it out of the park with “Always Be My Baby” so David A. was only second best.

The final could boil down to the two Davids and if so, David Cook’s vocal stylings will most likely win out because his performances are so unique.

David Archuleta David Cook

American Idol Favorites - Guys: David Archuleta has massive support from the all-important voting block of teenage girls. David Cook is probably the most musically talented contestant to ever grace the American idol stage.

American Idol Predictions 4-16-08 - Girls

In Danger: Carly Smithson, Syesha Mercado

Carly Smithson might have finally ended her run on Idol with her performance with her weak performance of “The Show Must Go On”.

Kristy Lee Cook stuck with the “country” niche while singing “Forever” and should be safe even though she’s the weakest female vocalist left in the Top 7.

Carly Smithson sang “Without You”, but it was pretty awful. She sounded like she was yelling during part of the song instead of singing.

Brooke White sang “Hero” and gave it her usual singer/songwriter vibe, but it was the wrong song for her and she sounded weak throughout and totally lame compared to the original version by Mariah.

Syesha Mercado sang “Vanishing” and she’ll be lucky if she isn’t the one doing the vanishing act on tonight’s results show. Not many people know the song and it didn’t really excite the crowd. Syesha seems to constantly underperform the material she picks.

Best Female Performance This Week: Kristy Lee Cook

And that gives you an idea of just how awful the girls were this week with the Mariah Carey songs. The guys just blew them away across the board.

Brooke White Carly Smithson

American Idol Favorites - Girls: Brooke White is very consistent and does a great job every week, except for last night. Carly Smithson has the pipes, but her visual appeal is low due to that horrific tattoo and her song choice was awful.

American Idol Predictions - Bottom Three for April 9

Well, I was only two for three last week on the predictions. Guess a whole lot of people weren’t expecting Michael Johns to get voted off either after he’d never been in the bottom three before.

So, who is voted off American Idol among the Top 8 contestants?

With fewer choices left, it’s all about the size of the fan base that each contest has built plus how many new votes they can pick up from contestants voted off.

Among the Top 7, these three female contestants will be in the bottom 3:

  1. Carly Smithson
  2. Syesha Mercado
  3. Brooke White

Brroke White has a strong fan base and although she’ll never win American Idol, she’ll outlast both Carly and Syesha.

Syesha did a much better job this week than Carly did, but overall Carly has had the stronger run. It all boils down to who inspires their fans to actually pick up their phones and vote.

This American Idol voted off matchup is almost too close to call…

Voted Off: Carly Smithson

And those are my American Idol Predictions April 16.
