American Idol Predictions April 23: Predictions for who got voted off American Idol based on the April 22 show performances last night doing Andrew Lloyd Webber songs – Find out which contestants are in the bottom three and which contestant is going home.
Best American Idol Performance on 4-22-08
David Cook might have gone last, but he clearly topped all the other contestants with his rendition of “The Music Of the Night” showing that Broadway show tunes are within his vocal range.
Watch the video clip of David Cook singing The Music Of the Night:
American Idol Predictions April 15 – Guys
In Danger: Jason Castro
Jason sang “Memory” from the ALW’s Broadway smash musical “Cats”, but it wasn’t all right with me. While he put a lot of feeling into it, the song needs to soar with yearning for the past and it clearly didn’t pack the emotional punch needed to avoid the dreaded Bottom 3.
Simon nailed it when he said that Jason looked like someone being forced to sing a song they didn’t want to sing at the family wedding. LOL!
Best Performances This Week: David Cook, David Archuleta
Besides David Cook’s top performance, 17-year old David Archuleta did his usual great job, but really seemed hung up on trying to sing with his eyes open. David sang “Think Of Me” from The Phantom of the Opera, the longest running show in Broadway history and gave an earnest rendition of the Broadway show tune.
Strangely, singing Broadway show tunes should be right up David’s alley because he has that kind of stage background, but he didn’t power through with his singing. Again, I think he was too focused on keeping his eyes open (last week’s big criticism of him) instead of just losing himself in the song and totally feeling it.
The final could boil down to the two Davids and if so, David Cook’s vocal stylings will most likely win out because his performances are so unique.

American Idol Favorites – Guys: David Archuleta has massive support from the all-important voting block of teenage girls. David Cook is probably the most musically talented contestant to ever grace the American idol stage.
American Idol Predictions 4-23-08 – Girls
In Danger: Brooke White, Syesha Mercado
Brroke White bombed bigtime with her version “You Must Love Me” from the film version of the Broadway musical Evita. She forgot the words and had to start over. Then she sang the song in a heinous fashion, over enunciating the wrong words.
Brooke’s nervous and weird performance was a classic train wreck!
Syesha Mercado sang “One Rock N Roll Too Many,” a song from Starlight Express while looking very sexy in a red dress. All the judges loved her performance.
Randy really raved about Syesha and said she could be a huge Broadway star. Paula said “this is your happy place” and Simon said this was one of her best performances so far.
Best Female Performance This Week: Carly Smithson
Carly Smithson belted out “Jesus Christ Superstar”, giving a confident performance that showed her vocal power. Funniest moment was when Andrew Lloyd Webber said in her preview segment that Carly had “a big, chest voice” and needed a big, dramatic song.

American Idol Favorites – Girls: Carly Smithson has finally pulled ahead of her nemessis Brooke White once and for all, but her visual appeal is low due to that horrific tattoo.
American Idol Predictions – Bottom Three for April 23
So, who is voted off American Idol among the Top 6 contestants?
With fewer choices left, it’s all about the size of the fan base that each contest has built plus how many new votes they can pick up from contestants voted off.
Among the Top 6, these three contestants will be in the bottom 3:
- Jason Castro
- Syesha Mercado
- Brooke White
Jason Castro is probably going to slide by this week because he gets the high school and college girls all dreamy eyed thinking that he’s singing just to them.
Brooke White really had a strong fan base three weeks ago, but she’s been awful lately and forgetting the words is a sure way to get voted off.
Syesha did a much better job this week than Brooke did. She might not have had as many fans behind in the past as Brooke, but she’s outsung her the past two weeks. It all boils down to who inspires their fans to actually pick up their phones and vote.
This American Idol voted off choice is pretty clear…
Voted Off: Brooke White
And those are my American Idol Predictions April 23.

Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong with these predictions!
Brooke definitely deserved to go, but I guess at this point it’s really all about the fan base and not the performance.
Looking back at my original Top 5 prediction two months ago, I had 4 out of 5 right.
Just never saw Syesha making it into the Top 5…
