The Kooks first album “Inside In, Inside Out” was such an instant hit in Britain that four months after it’s release, the band was opening for the Rolling Stones.

“It was nuts, but I really just did it to get the poster – the Kooks and the Rolling Stones,” says frontman Luke Pritchard, who speaks of the opportunity with cool nonchalance. “They’re literally like a machine. They practically get wheeled on and wheeled off the stage.”

The Brighton, England-based band, which includes Pritchard, guitarist Hugh Harris, drummer Paul Garred and bassist Dan Logan, is quickly making a name for themselves in the U.S. with their strong melodies and raw garage rock sound reminiscent of The Beatles and The Kinks.

The buzz from their New York City performance June 2, 2008 was a testament to their fans’ commitment: “Do You Wanna?” is on the band’s sophomore album, “Konk,” which isn’t even in stores yet, but all their fans were singing along with the band

“That was one of the best [shows] we’ve done in America,” says Pritchard. “We’ll play gigs, and people will shout out songs that we haven’t even released yet. There’s a real community with the band on the Internet.”

Fittingly, the Kooks shot the video for their new album’s first single, “Always Where I Need To Be,” on a rooftop in Brooklyn, because they “thought it’d be really cool to get the band up on the roof like The Beatles.”
